National Park Shared Boys’ Room

A shared bedroom fit for two adventurous little boys!
I have been working on a little room refresh for our youngest two boys, Conway (3) and Stone (2). The inspiration for their room came from some vintage postcards we bought while on vacation and it has since evolved into a National Park/adventure themed room.
Their room cannot accommodate two twin beds without sacrificing on play space, so I opted for bunk beds! We love how the bunk beds have allowed the boys to have a nice, big area to play and run around. One of the biggest things I did before starting their room refresh was minimize toys. Toys accumulate so quickly around here! The boys have one toy storage cabinet with 9 small, felt bins that holds all of their toys and isn’t an eye sore for their room. If there is one thing I have learned with my boys’ rooms, it’s that less is more!
The star of the room is definitely the Hot Air Balloon wallpaper from Livette’s. Isn’t it darling?! I love the vintage feel it brings to the room and it plays along so well with the National Park theme. I chose to go with hot air balloons to always remind my boys to seek adventure, be brave and fearless and to always “fly” wherever the Lord leads them in life.

Big Kid Room to Sleep & Play

My 5.5 year old son requested black walls, superheroes, and toys in his room. His favorite superhero is Ghost Rider and it took awhile to find art that featured him, but wasn’t too scary. I used his favorite colors throughout the room: black, blue, gray, and red. To maximize toy storage & play space I installed a closet system that accommodates all of his clothes & costumes as well as puzzles & boardgames.

The room came together with pieces from all over the place- some we’ve had for years. Bed/ headboard (Wayfair), chair & fan (Home Depot), art & blue pillow (Etsy), rug & red pillow (Home Goods), black bookcase & blue floor bin (Crate & Barrel), blue striped sheets (Walmart/ Gap), white duvet, white sconces, globe light, gray felt bins, nightstand, closet system (IKEA), curtains (West Elm), black sconce & air purifier (Target), smart piggy bank, door hook & black furniture legs (Amazon).
Although there are a lot of things in his room, there is still room to add more clothes and toys into the existing storage especially since we regularly purge (donate/ sell/ toss) items that no longer suit his needs.

Truck Themed Boys Room with Pattern Fun

Playful patterns for a playful kiddo!
One of my favorite memories growing up is when my parents would redo my bedroom and they’d let me choose whatever theme I wanted. So this time around we involved our little guy with a few choices for his big boy bedroom and I have to say- it was fun getting a little input from a 3 year old. I think we got everything on his list: trucks ✔️ blue ✔️ red ✔️ (what an easy client!😆)
Our 3 year old is very much a bright, colorful, & playful kind of kid, so I wanted his bedroom to reflect that. Some days he prefers pink (he knows it’s mom’s favorite color) & other days he prefers orange (thanks to Blippi) but usually you can catch him saying blue & red are his favorite colors, so we decided to do blue board+batten on an accent wall, along with accents of red here & there. We used this fun Serena + Lily Feathered wallpaper as a backsplash on the accent wall, with some white framed Etsy truck prints to pop against the wallpaper. The Polymath Mom name sign fits perfectly in the room and will grow with him over time.
My goal was for the room to reflect his personality and involve all things he loves so that he truly enjoys being in his own little space. The room has a fun feeling with details of trucks everywhere, along with a book bench reading corner to accommodate his love for reading.
My advice is to involve your child during the design process if you can! Make a space that they’ll love and will accommodate their wants. Happy designing!

Shark Attack Shared Boys Room

The perfect room for two boys looking to get creative and have fun escaping sharks and using their imaginations. I created this room with a nautical surf vibe for two sweet boys. I wanted to make it exciting but also be a place that they can grow into for many years to come. The existing furniture was complimented with a custom wall mural, a grow with me modern desk, shark bedding and a gallery wall. I absolutely love this one and so do my sweet clients!

Shark Themed Boy’s Room

Our inspiration for jack’s big boy shark room came while we were browsing the aisles of the new pillowfort collection at Target.  We had been looking for a few months at different themes that were “cool” enough for a big 5-year-olds room.  We left that day with our cool new shark bedding!  With a couple of trips to our local Homegoods and Hobby Lobby stores, we bought them out all things related to sharks, ocean, and fish.  Jack was very much a part of his new room design. He wanted something special to make it his own, so he sat down with a blank canvas and a paint brush and painted an awesome shark for his wall.

James’ bright yet calming big boys room

James’ room is  modern and fresh; the focal point is the detailed Scandinavian-inspired blue and white wallpaper of rolling hills and little creatures. There’s plenty of room for relaxing and reading with bookshelves and a beanbag. There’s a subtle rainbow theme in the rainbow felt garland, confetti pillowcase and rainbow hot air balloon that add this real sense of fun and wonder

Celebrity Vintage Toys Boy’s Room

This three year old little boy looks exactly like his father as a toddler! So his “vintage toy themed” room was inspired by the vintage oil painting of his father as seen in the middle image.  I thought it would be great to add new, but vintage looking toy trucks, boats and more to the boy’s room and add retro styled fabrics of muted green and blue bubble dots, ticking stripes and brown corduroy. To complete the look, I painted a personalized radio flyer wagon and red tricycle canvas for over the bed. What a great way to bring in the family ties and provide a classic vintage boy’s room that will last for many years to come! Oh…and I almost forgot to mention… this is a celebrity kids’ room. Can you guess who the celebrity might be? It’s none other than Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss.

Pallet Wall Industrial Boy’s Room

I am so excited to share my recent makeover project with the help of RH Baby & Child. This one is especially near and dear because it was for my four year old son, Chase! For the complete story, check out my #ProjectChase journey on the blog:

Zeb’s Monochrome Big Boy’s Room

Being a tomboy as a child, I was so excited to find out that my first-born was going to be a boy. I mean, after spending my childhood, jumping out of trees and playing with matchbox cars, I thought I’d be at a loss if I had a girl (although turns out I do just fine!).
Up until late last year, we were renovating an older house with the view of selling it so poor Zeb didn’t really get a nursery. Seriously! All he had was his cot (and later toddler bed), some drawers and a bookcase! So, obviously we were both excited when it was decided that Zeb’s room would be the first room to be done.

Red, White and Blue “Big Boy” Room

My son needed to vacate the nursery to make room for our newest little baby girl arriving, so we got started on fixing up the guest room and turning it into his big boy room. He’s into superheroes, but I didn’t want the room to scream Marvel, so I added a few hero touches to keep him happy, but also added lots of boyish, unique elements that I think will grow with him as he gets older.
