Boho Desert Nursery

As soon as I started thinking about my nursery, I knew that I’d want a natural, warm & earthy colour palette (which has to include some of my favourite colour, Mustard!) in a modern boho style, with a hint of a desert theme. We found out we were having another baby girl, so I wanted to incorporate a hint of dusty rose colour through the room also. I love the softness of rainbow/arch shapes, so you’ll see I’ve incorporated hints of this shape throughout. I also knew I needed to include special pieces from one of my favourite brands, Boho Baby Heaven; a very small family business, run by a mother-daughter duo based in Hungary. Mariann & Inez specialize in bohemian style home/nursery decor & toys, all made completely by hand. I shared my ideas about the theme of the nursery them, and I knew they would create the perfect pieces to suit. They exceeded my expectations. These pieces are all so special to me, they evoke such joy & have tied together my nursery space so perfectly. Inez did a guest blog post previously featuring the creative & design process of these pieces. I’ve tried to keep a repetition of elements throughout this room; using light wood & natural elements such as rattan & cane, with the warm earthy colours, and pops of mustard & dusty rose. Before Maisie arrived, I would spent quiet moments in here sitting in the papasan chair whilst sipping on a tea. The golden afternoon sun diffusing softly through the curtains; to me, the room feels warm, happy & completely calm. It’s my little nursery oasis! Our two cats seem to agree as I catch them both sleeping happily in here every day.

Modern Boho Nursery with Floral Wallpaper

Earthy, moody and calming… I am so in love with this sweet rosie nursery. This being my Clients’ third child, we were able to repurpose several elements they already had; from the light fixture, to the crib, to vintage art prints, to the sunburst mirror that once hung in their living room. We even picked the perfect Fusion Mineral Paint colour (pressed fern) to bring new life to their old IKEA dresser and framed a floral magazine clipping that was found in an old chest from an estate sale years ago. I love how vintage and sentimental elements always bring so much character to a space! To complement their renovated mid-century modern Edwardian home, we knew we needed a statement rug — this one fit the bill on every level and was the winning choice the second I saw it. The showstopping feature is definitely the beautiful handmade macrame that hangs in front of delicately sketched floral wallpaper in the most subtle blush colour. This serene nursery is all set for baby sister’s arrival and will surely be a room where many new memories will be made, for this beautiful soon-to-be family of 5!

Organic Gender Neutral Nursery

I wanted a gender neutral nursery for our baby boy who is going to share this room with his older brother! That’s why the table with two chairs is a must have. I loved the calmness of the neutral colors and the bohemian vibes. Very inspired with hyacinth, rattan and seagrass details! The Babyletto Crib is probably my favorite piece in the room, along with the neutral tone giraffe plush!
I wanted a seagrass changing basket but had a changing pad from our first son’s nursery. Here’s a trick! We purchased an underbed storage basket, placed the changing pad inside and voila! No need to purchase a new changing basket.

Llewyn’s Cactus Boho Modern Nursery

THE ROOM
I had previously used this room for studio photography and never would I have thought that a year later I would be photographing the room itself and that it would belong to a baby.
Going into it, Martha and I knew that we wanted to keep it gender neutral; that was very important to us. We wanted the gender to be a surprise and we also knew that if we found out, we would be inundated with stereotypical and mostly awful (sorry!), pink or blue items. Good design has no gender! We did not want our child to be a product of gender stereotypes from birth as we felt he or she had the right to be his or her own self.
We have been on a Southwestern kick for awhile now, inspired by Austin Texas aesthetics and design. Martha found the cactus “contact” wallpaper on Etsy and funny enough, it looked exactly like something she would paint for her stationery business. A lot of our friends thought that she actually took the time to hand-paint it. The cactus wallpaper wall became the focal point of the room. We decided to only cover one wall because the pattern is quite busy. The rest of the room was given a fresh coat of flat Behr “Night Blooming Jasmine” paint. To break up the wallpaper a bit, we found a round, brass-rimmed mirror from Target and placed a sympatico modern brass floor lamp nearby. The wallpaper pattern played a role in our choice of furniture as we picked light, modern pieces (crib, rocker chair, and dresser) from Babyletto. Playing off the white / natural color scheme incorporated in those pieces, we found a boho-inspired flatwoven rug from Ikea as well as a stacked pair of rattan footstools and topped that with a faux sheepskin. Hanging above the crib is a beautiful, handmade-to-order cactus mobile in a similar color scheme.
A lot of the work in the room involved the wall with the doorway and the closet. Our home was built in the late 70’s which meant the thin metal closet doors ran from floor-to-ceiling. I had to frame and drywall above the 47″ wide closet and since the opening was a bit bigger than a standard 32″ door, I ended up building my own 48″ wide shaker door and mounting it on steel sliding door hardware. Fortunately the 8 ft rolling door hardware just barely fit on that wall but that air return did pose an issue. In the end I replaced the original return grille with a floor vent so that it would be almost completely flat and allow for the door to roll by without scraping it. For the room’s entry door, I replaced the cheap hollow core door with a panel door and added a black modern door lever.
As for the window-side wall, we were very fortunate there was an existing built-in. The only things that had to be done were framing around the brand new window we installed and painting the entire bookcase as the previous owner had the genius idea of making them dark blue! Since the shelf just above the changing table doesn’t have too much clearance, I do foresee cutting it out as an upcoming task.
The wall across from the cactus wallpaper is still a work in process. So far we’ve found a stuffed Lion trophy head which is a nod to our son’s name-meaning as well as the fact that he’s a Leo. Below that is a “Raise Hell Kid” inspirational pennant banner from Oxford Pennant and adjacent is a hanging textile with a color scheme that flowed with the boho aspects of rest of the room.
I think as designers, my wife and I will be constantly incorporating new pieces into the room and even making slight changes. I am happy that we did the whole project ourselves. Doing this “for him”, we could feel a connection with him during the whole process even though he was not even born yet.

ABOUT US
Growing up my father worked in a factory so building things and repairs around the home were his creative outlet. It’s crazy looking back and remembering the things he would create like furniture or even these really well made wooden jack-o-latern and ghost cutout decorations, sans inspiration from Pinterest or the Internet. I was very fortunate to be able to learn from him and gain the confidence that I could create something out of nothing with tools, even though at the time I was probably less than thrilled being awake before noon on a weekend. Pretty sure he always reminded me that one day I would appreciate it and now that I’m 30 (and not a millionaire that can constantly hire someone like I swore up and down that I would be), I do. Thanks Dad.
My wife and I are both in the creative field. I have run a successful apparel business for over 10 years and she is a graphic designer who is up to her neck in wedding stationery projects.

Whimsical Boho Inspired Nursery for a Little Girl

When we found out we were expecting a little girl, I was so surprised! I always thought I would have a little boy. So when I began thinking about decorating the nursery, I was completely overwhelmed. I knew I wanted something simple, a bit modern and not too feminine as I’m not a girly girl by any means.
I wanted to stay away from the traditional color of pinks. Originally, I wanted an all white nursery but my husband vetoed the idea saying it look to sterile (the drawbacks of having an artistic husband!). We settled on mostly white furniture with an accent of walnut to contrast. When i stumbled across a local artist Kelli Kronberger and found her work I was totally inspired! I knew i had found the one piece that I wanted to work around to work around the entire room!
We already had the overdyed rug that I thought we could add in for an extra contrast and give a pop of color that we could work with.
I made the hanging wall art from a blogpost I found on Project Nursery and the rest of the decor on the shelves were either things i found locally or made from cards friends had given us. I’m obsessed with Jelly Cat so we had to include a few of our favorite plush for her to enjoy as she gets older!
The chandelier was a gift from a good friend who found it at a local vintage shop! We were in love and thought it brought the perfect amount of feminine chic to our little girls room!

Boho Desert Chic Gender Neutral Nursery

Me and my husband are from California, recently moved to Texas and wanted to bring a sense of our original home into the nursery, especially since the babe to be was conceived while visiting the area of Joshua Tree National Park, ha!  I started building upon the theme with my first purchase of the deer skull, and then the cactus wallpaper which I ordered through Spoonflower. Since the wallpaper is so busy, it was important to keep much of the furniture neutral with white wash, and instead, focus on lots of natural textures and bringing in green with plants. Much of the nursery decor was hand crafted by me during my pregnancy: including the felt mobile, the air plant holders, pyrography art, and macrame. All of the furniture were hand-me-downs gifted from family, originally different colors that had to be sanded and white-washed. The three pieces of art I framed and hung were found at local markets, I am obsessed with watercolor!

Contemporary Boho Chic Nursery

I wanted to create a dreamlike wonderland for my daughter’s nursery that incorporates contemporary elements of our modern home with boho chic. I knew I wanted a graphic wallpaper to anchor the room as a focal point, and off which the rest of the room could play off of. This incredible wallpaper by Ellie Cashman is both traditional and contemporary with it’s larger than life scale of florals and black background. It also provided the perfect accompaniment to the Lignet Roset couch I custom ordered in light pink and have been searching for an excuse to order! I felt it was important to incorporate elements into this room that I could see my daughter enjoying for years to come and I can really picture her as a small child playing on this couch with her friends and toys. The bookshelf and neon sign are also elements that I imagine will stay in her room with her until she’s grown. For a touch of whimsy, the room incorporates a mix of patterns and textures with the pillows, Modern Burlap crib sheets and the custom drapes made with Pierre Frey fabric. To compliment the contemporary, clean lines of the room, some more natural, boho chic elements were added like the feather mobile and cowhide with some metallic hints to bring them up to date and complete the look of the room. This is a room both baby girl and her mom can enjoy!

Liv Adaline’s ‘Boho Aztec’ Nursery

My husband and I didn’t know if we were having a boy or girl, we wanted to keep it a surprise which meant creating a beautiful nursery that would suit either gender. The walls throughout our home and in the nursery were already gray and I wanted to stay with that color scheme. I chose cream as the additional color so I could add accents and change up the style whenever I wanted to.
I absolutely LOVED the idea of a teepee in the nursery so that when the baby is a little older they have a built in ‘fort’ already in their space for playing, reading or even napping with our puppy. I was able to source the teepee locally-  that was the starting point, my inspiration!
I have traveled extensively and had textiles from Peru, Belize and other areas so I knew there needed to be an eclectic / Aztec vibe. Hence the theme ‘Boho Aztec’.
I sourced the crib, dresser, rug and glider from popular brands, for everything else I tried to use local artists and friends, including pillows, curtains and banners from one of my besties and paintings from my mom!
The space turned out beautifully, it feels zen, magical and I love that Liv is surrounded by locally sourced items made with love.

Mila’s Sweet Boho Nursery

As a new interior designer and first time mother, when I found out I was having a baby girl I was beyond thrilled and wanted to take the opportunity to design the feminine nursery of my dreams! It was the perfect excuse to embrace my love of the color pink and use gold accents.
We also recently move into a new home, which we renovated, so our budget was tight. I was able to complete the nursery for under $1500! I purchased the crib, dresser, glider, and rug from All Modern and most of the decorative pieces from Etsy, Ikea, and Home Goods. I was also able to repurpose a few items I had in the garage and used some great flea market finds.
My vision for the nursery was to make it a little bohemian, glam, unique and comfortable…which made the result very eclectic, in my opinion. I also wanted it to be adaptable, if we decide to make a change or not to use so much pink in the future, it’s an easy switch since the staple pieces are neutral and all wall decals are removable. One of my favorite elements in the nursery ended up being the chandelier. Originally I intended to use a pricey gold urchin pendant that was beautiful. However, due to budget constraints I ended up going with a very affordable fixture from Ikea and I love it! It feels very light and airy, and perfect for a whimsical nursery. Another favorite of mine is the dresser. I didn’t like the stainless knobs that originally came with it and I searched all over to find just the right replacement. Eventually I saw these cute wooden knobs in the clearance section at Home Goods and snatched them up immediately. I love the clearance section.
There is so much to worry about and plan for when expecting a baby, it’s nice to have been able to complete the nursery of my dreams and know that I didn’t “break the bank.” We can’t wait for our little baby Mila to arrive in January!

Boho Chic Nursery

My clients had a clear vision for their baby’s nursery from the moment we sat down at our first design meeting. We started with the color palette, balancing the expansion of coral and turquoise from the rest of the house into the nursery to create a cohesive flow, while also giving the room a personality of its own. We settled on a boho chic feel which was achieved through classic textures paired with birds and butterflies, a fun way to take the baby from her first steps and into toddlerhood. The classic grey and white palette of the furniture will allow the pieces to grow with the room and the blush pink walls were just enough to make it girly without taking over. Adding a touch of whimsy with a cozy nook at the window was a perfect way to bring in some adventurous colors while topping off the space.

World Traveler Themed, Colorful, Eclectic and Boho Nursery

Over the course of about two months I collected pieces for this nursery and put it together for our little girl’s arrival on December 1st! To be honest, all I pictured was a lot of bright colors and a world traveler theme, and other than that there was no plan! I just always tell people to buy things you like and then it’ll all come together when you’re decorating! I think it’s more fun that way.
