Joey’s Blue and Gray Jungle Safari Nursery

I chose a soothing color palette of blues, grays, creams and whites to incorporate the theme of jungle animals! My son’s nursery is a small space, and I wanted to make the most of it. The room is rich with texture and plain expanses of colors and neutrals with pattern mixed in. I had to repurpose a few large items (crib, glider, and ottoman) that belonged to my daughter, so that was the starting point with the furniture. As he grows older and his tastes evolve, the animal accessories and art can be swapped out for “big boy” decorations while the main colors and furniture remain!

Navy Kansas City Nursery

We originally were using the “Oh The Places You Will Go” theme, but we kept finding local Kansas City maps and materials we wanted to incorporate into the room (including the map mural of Kansas City), and we thought – “Our kid really isn’t going far in life!” SO, someone suggested we change it to “The Places You’ll Go, but Remember Your Roots” and that sounded good to me. It’s a mix of Kansas City and travel materials.
This is our second child, and after designing our first nursery, I started to fall in love with the Navy/White color scheme. I knew I wanted to use it for this project. A lot of the items in the room are DIY, but inspired by items I found on the web. I liked the idea of putting my blood, sweat and tears into every element in the room, and really tried to make as many of the items as I could.
The dresser was a 6-week project that my dad and I tackled to complete strip and stain. It was a hideous bright blue before. The crib is from a Project Nursery contest that I won (THANK YOU NEWPORT COTTAGES!), and I was amazed how close we were able to get the dresser to match the color of the crib.
The Peter Pan painting was a DIY project, but inspired by an Etsy artist (link to Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/198639510/peter-pan-little-ones-aedriel). The map painting above the crib was a DIY project (letters purchased from Etsy). Same with the nautical maps – those are hand cut on scrapbooking paper, but they were inspired by an Etsy artist (link to artist page: https://www.etsy.com/listing/255418479/bermuda-original-8-x-10-papercut-art-in?ref=hp_rf). The paper airplane mobile is a DIY project inspired by an item at Pottery Barn Kids.
I hope you enjoy it! Thank you to the wonderful Briana Gray with The Grays Photography (https://www.facebook.com/thegraysphotography)

Carter’s Classic Striped Nursery

We wanted Carter’s nursery to be a classic nursery befitting a little gentleman. The focal point of the nursery is the striped wall. I wanted the stripes to vary in size and color to create more visual interest and to stand out from your average stripes. I chose to stay with cool calming colors that complemented each other and fit the overall feel of the room. We had a mix of accessories for our little gent, from travel inspired pictures to vintage sports balls and of course we had to tie in some nautical pieces with our home being in San Diego. A lot of the items in the nursery were DIYed or customized by us. My favorite item might be the shelf that we made out of rope, galvanized pipes and painted wood. Another fun touch were the handprinted knobs on his dresser that looked like baseballs. We also changed out the standard closet in his room so it would have display shelves but still offer storage options. I feel like the room is perfect for our little guy but still keeps with the overall feel of our house.

Blake’s Nautical Inspired Nursery

I wanted to create a cute little boy space without a “theme” that would grow from a nursery to a little boys room.  The room was inspired by the blue and grey rug and then we added some nautical items to give it a little character. The light grey walls are very calming one of my favorite parts besides the dimmable pendant lamp and the custom sign my husband made. I am so excited to share my design!

Blue and Gray Nursery with Room to Grow

It was important to me for the room to be a hybrid of sorts where our baby boy can grow from the crib to the bed and the room still feel comfortable and inviting to both him and us.
I had no idea where to start besides knowing I wanted gray walls and that eventually some color would start to bleed into the space through decor items I purchased.
I started just wandering stores and picking up things I loved. Not everything fit into the grand scheme of things and were returned, but the process helped me choose a direction.
