My inspiration from this nursery came from the fact that I wanted some thing that would be very timeless. I really wanted it to feel like no matter when you walked into this room, it would work for years to come. I focused on having calming colors that coordinate in all areas in all details of the room. With that being said, I really wanted to have artwork that didn’t scream “baby” at you. The art behind the crib actually came from the fact that I really wanted to feel calm and peaceful when I walked into this room since I knew I’d be spending lots of hours in here I also wanted to comfort. I reupholstered an antique rocker and designed it with specific colors in mind. Eleanor almost 2 years later I couldn’t be more thrilled with it

Beach vibes only ✌
When you live in Illinois, winter can be depressing and gray. I wanted my son’s room to be bright and cherry with a tranquil beach vibe — surfer style it is! 🏄‍♂️
The walls are Sherwin Williams | Glimmer SW6476 — and it’s the perfect shade of cheerful and chill. The pictures above his crib are from Target and they come as a set. The floating shelves are from Ikea for $4.99/ea. The stackable wooden bins are also from Target and great for books and toys. I am still working on a gallery wall for above his dresser. We have waited a long time for our baby girl to be here – years of infertility and failed treatments so the idea of getting to share a room with her big sister who is exactly 6 years older was very special to us and even her! I had a vision in my head for a long time of having a feature wall behind their beds that was a deep shade of green and the floral wallpaper that I fell in love with.
My biggest piece of advice for people planning a space is don’t be afraid to pivot. I had an idea in my head of matching beds for now – basically a crib that coordinates and is in the same furniture line as the big girl bed, but because of Covid delays or not wanting to spend billions on beds, I had to pivot and got matching beds for later and beds that compliment one another now, but aren’t in the same line.

We knew we wanted neutral space that incorporated a subtle nod to our love of the beach. We chose mini cribs for our twin girls. Wave decals, surf board growth chart, and drift wood peace sign are our favorite pieces for the space!

This boy has sensory seeking needs. He is very sensitive to lighting and to colors.
I added the wave pattern wallpaper because it is soothing, and he’s able to feel calm when he’s in his room. I also Added storage bins to organize all his toys. The less he sees, the better. The more clutter is in his room, the more anxious he gets. The wall color i used is a light calming color. I also added the teepee so that he could go in there when he feels anxious. Since he has low muscle tone and a weak core, I chose chairs that are curved so that he could feel supported and “hugged”. I added a swing to help him calm down when he feels he’s out of control. All of those elements really contribute to his mood and comfort. They have helped him tremendously!

Designing our sons nursery originally started with a coastal inspiration. I rushed an placed my order for crib bedding, found the perfect shelves and then we decided to move…. to the country! I really didn’t want to continue with the theme living “out west” but wanted to keep the base items I already had and that’s when I found the most perfect wallpaper foe his nursery! I adore this wallpaper that allowed me to keep the warm, neutral tones and baby blues! I love that it gives me the same feeling our daughters nursery did; it’s not too babyish, room to grow (with them and design projects to come), flows with our house while standing out and just feels calming.
I love wallpaper in babies/kids rooms! It gives you such a great foundation to bring in classic neutral pieces that you can reuse for another baby down the road (his rocker, crib and dresser were all from big sisters nursery!) and it leaves such a fun start to their big kid room!

Never, EVER, did I think I would paint a room blush pink.  Yet, here we are and…I LOVE it!  Now, let’s get to the back story.
We moved into our beautiful, new (to us) home in March of 2020.  Yes, right at the start of the pandemic.  It was a tough time for our sweet girl, her whole world had been turned upside down in a matter of weeks.  Once we were settled, I knew I wanted to make her room special and something that she would love as she grows up (I’m not crying…).
Her room at the new house has beautiful vaulted ceilings, two bright windows, and ample space to spread out.  She had spent her time distance learning in our dining room this past year, but I was ready to reclaim my space and give her some much needed privacy (cue seven year old attitude).  We were on a pretty tight budget as we are doing other projects around the house.  Thank goodness for Target!  We found the perfect desk, bookcases, and accessories.  Great quality, affordable and so, so cute!
Together, we chose the perfect blush pink, Head Over Heels by Benjamin Moore.  She squealed in delight as I painted all that luscious pinkness on the walls.  I have to be honest, it felt a little pink overload at first.  However, once we put everything back into the room and added those pops of turquoise…wow, I was a little jealous!  I painted the wooden storage bins to match the turquoise in the throw pillow.  They give that perfect pop of color in the book cases while still providing cute storage.
The dollhouse also received a little makeover.  Fresh paint, some new furniture and decor.  It’s a favorite amongst my daughters friends when they come over for a playdate.  And, let’s be honest, me too.
What I love about paint is how it transforms a space for not a lot of money.  It really allows you to be creative and bold.  My daughter and I had a great time creating her new space together and I know it’s something we will love for years to come.

I was inspired by Lily Pulitzer’s mermaid cove print while creating a nursery for baby girl #2! I love the bright splashes of blues and pinks and even the touch of lime green. This room theme will be perfect when transitioning to toddler/preschools years.
