Coastal Chic Gender Neutral Nursery

When I found out I was expecting a boy I was really stumped with what to do with the nursery. While I enjoy bold colours for boys’ rooms (think navy, forest green even black), my style preference is light and airy. I did not want to just paint the walls grey like the gender neutral nurseries I usually see on Pinterest.
I wanted to create a space that was “pretty” to look at but still somewhat masculine. I love wallpaper and I scoured the internet looking for some for this room, but I couldn’t find anything that I loved that hadn’t been over used in other boys’ rooms. When I couldn’t find a wallpaper I loved, I decided to create this unique feature wall with moulding. The wall is currently painted white, but it could change to a colour (such as navy) in the future! The other walls are painted light grey.
Designing a nursery in a pandemic when all the stores were closed was challenging. About 90% of the room was ordered online and when they re-opened I picked up a few decor items (pillows, picture frames) from HomeSense again. The shelves were pretty bare though so I never found exactly what I was looking for, however it will do for now! I love the nautical theme for boys’ rooms as well as coastal decor, so I combined these two elements. I didn’t want there to be boats and anchors everywhere, but I added a few nods to beach life in the decor and I used a beach inspired palette of blue, white and grey.

Cactus Cowboy

Once my husband and I found out we were having another boy we knew we wanted the boys to share a room. I wanted to create a space that was beneficial for my 3 year old and my soon to be newborn. I kept most of the decor from my first sons nursery and just added some small details to make it feel new. I really love how their room turned out and my oldest son could not wait for the arrival of our new little buckaroo to share their room.

A Buffalo Plaid Navy & Gray Nursery for Braxton!

Looking for inspiration for a farmhouse nursery with traditional style?

This dreamy gender neutral baby room, designed by Ashton Kirby from Port Orchard Washington, delivers a rustic vibe, but with a classic twist.

Ashton took a fresh approach to the rustic nursery trend and created the sweetest little abode for her new baby Braxton!

Timeless pieces give the room a refined edge that brings warmth, texture and a relaxed vibe.  Our soft Gray Buffalo Plaid Crib Bedding and a tufted glider add to the traditional look of the room.  However, the navy ship lap wall, beaded chandelier and metal name letters give the room its farmhouse feel.  The white Storkcraft Bayview Crib has classic style, clean lines and anchors the room.  Perfect for a farmhouse styled nursery.  An ottoman in the nursery is a must have and just the spot for relaxing tired feet.

When designing a rustic baby room, you don’t have to go full out with red plaid, dark woods and woodland decor.  A simple farmhouse nursery decorated with classic styling can create a cozy and warm space for your baby, and can easily blend in well with the rest of your home’s decor.

The breath-taking navy blue ship lap wall is the perfect backdrop for the white furniture, soft plaid baby bedding and nursery decor.  The deep shade of blue makes the crib and framed artwork pop.  Endearing framed wall art from Hobby Lobby features a gray watercolor style elephant design with a popular message:  “Dream Big Little One”.

The plank ceiling, with its natural texture and charming style, can warm up any space!  Keep it clean with bright white paint.  The wooden beaded chandelier from Wayfair takes center stage, and adds a dramatic touch.  A soft toned area rug provides subtle aztec influence.  Rustic floating book shelves are handmade by Braxton’s daddy!

The gray tufted glider from Wayfair anchors this corner space and adds a perfect spot for bedtime stories.  The white toy chest was made by Ashton’s grandfather for her when she was a little girl!

We think this nursery is the perfect combination of sweet and simple.  Everything about this room is oh-so-chic!   A gender neutral nursery is a great choice, if you are planning for another child.  The decor and bedding will easily transition for the next addition.  You can always accent the room with other non-neutral decor.

Organic Gender Neutral Nursery

I wanted a gender neutral nursery for our baby boy who is going to share this room with his older brother! That’s why the table with two chairs is a must have. I loved the calmness of the neutral colors and the bohemian vibes. Very inspired with hyacinth, rattan and seagrass details! The Babyletto Crib is probably my favorite piece in the room, along with the neutral tone giraffe plush!
I wanted a seagrass changing basket but had a changing pad from our first son’s nursery. Here’s a trick! We purchased an underbed storage basket, placed the changing pad inside and voila! No need to purchase a new changing basket.

Modern Board and Batten Wall Nursery

We really poured our heart into Ford’s nursery, especially the vertical board & batten accent wall. This was our first DIY project at our new home. We couldn’t decide if we wanted a geometric pattern, like Within the Grove (http://withinthegrove.com/creating-a-modern-wood-accent-wall/) or a vertical board & batten wall, like Honey Built Home (http://www.honeybuilthome.com/vertical-board-batten/). I decided to do a combination of those two ideas. I’m thankful I found their blogs, because it really inspired our project.
We also couldn’t have completed the accent wall without our friends, Morgan & Dan, who already had experience and tools from completing one in their nursery. It was amazing how quickly it came together. Because our friends brought the tools, our supplies for the accent wall only added up to around $100!
I’m also grateful to have found @linseywoods.home on Instagram for the decor inspiration in the diaper changing area of the nursery. And I really love supporting local shops, which is why I ordered several things on Etsy.
It’s such a gratifying feeling knowing we worked really hard on this project for our baby. We had considered hiring a contractor to complete the accent wall, but every time I walk in the nursery, I’m proud we took it on ourselves. We are new homeowners and if we can do it, anyone can! We’re looking forward to more projects like this in the future.

Serene Safari-Themed Baby Girl Nursery

We spent four years trying for a baby. We tried naturally for a few years and then gave IVF a shot. Unfortunately, the first round of IVF didn’t work, so we decided to take a break for a month and then give it a second go. Within that month, we got pregnant naturally. Sofie Jeanne was born April 1st and we have never been happier.
When I was thinking about what kind of room to create for her, I wanted something that was cozy, but also peaceful. With all the hardship we went through to get her here, I wanted a place we could enjoy together that reminded me of what a wonderful gift this was to have for our family.
The colors I chose, subtle green and blush, where exactly what the room needed to take it from a dull pink to a comfy, cozy kid-friendly space. When I came across some of the baby animal themes in my research, I knew that’s what I wanted to make the room smile. Who doesn’t love looking at baby animals right? After coming across the removable animal decals on Etsy, I knew baby safari animals were the way to go.
Once I chose the color scheme and the theme, the rest fell into place. My advice to those thinking about a nursery theme would be to decide on the feelings you want the room to evoke first, then choose your colors, and finally picking a theme to help guide you. And also, if you have a closet with sliding doors, remove them.
As I started to think about how we were going to use the closet for a new baby, it was a last-minute idea to take the doors off. I felt like with the doors on, it kept the room feeling small and I had a hard time seeing everything in the closet, especially anything in the middle where the doors met.
When I removed the wire shelving, there were holes everywhere. Since baby girl was arriving sooner than later and I was very pregnant, I wanted a quick way to not have to fill every single hole. Adding a bit of peel-and-stick wallpaper from the clearance section of Target to the back of the closet helped make light of the workload and really made the open closet feel like it belonged. With a closet system installed, it now functions wonderfully and is easy on the eyes, too!
All in all, we have been using this nursery for about three months now and it has been a wonderful place to bond with our baby. It definitely exudes the serene vibes to read our little girl a story and calm her to sleep.
