This fall will mark the third year of preschool for my daughter (the old pro) and the first for my son (the rookie). I'm not sure who is most excited about the start of the school year, me or the kids, but I do know it's time to stock up on clothes, shoes and other gear. All this prep work has got me thinking about new lunch bags too. Each year we need one that's a little larger, sturdier and looks cool too. I've also been given a new request for the lunch time menu- soup! I've found a few fun lunch bags to inspire. Traditional, eco-friendly and even Japanese bento style are all the rage this back-to-school season. Happy lunching. New York based Amanda Moore launched her sustainable design firm re:place in 2001 by taking a holistic approach to interior design.  When pregnant with her son Ryder, Amanda used her talent for developing environmentally-sensitive commercial and residential spaces in the nursery. In 2006, first:place was born: "A nursery design consultancy with the mission of guiding parents in making smart choices for their children's rooms without compromising modern aesthetic or fun". As a successful interior designer and mom, Amanda's eco-chic nurseries honor family rituals, health, and all the senses as much as the need for a good changing table and safe crib. Project Nursery is delighted to shares some of Amanda's tips for creating a nursery that mother and baby will love to live, rest and play in. It's no wonder that those who work with Amanda often share that the nursery becomes their favorite room in the house... 1. Tread Lightly On The World They Will Inherit: Use natural materials, mix local and used goods with the new Italian sofa you must have, bring nature indoors with plants, water or stones and turn off lights and appliances when not in use. 2. Take a Holistic Approach: Good design doesn't stop at furniture and wallpaper. Add meaning to your child's room with family photos that reinforce their larger support system, examples of their school artwork so that they always feel creative, something from nature so they imagine the world at large, and something inspiring that represents their dreams for their future. 3. …

Have you noticed all the new skin care products for babies that have popped up in stores recently? Being a total product junkie and a mom in the thick of diaper duty you would think that I would be more up to speed on which products are stand outs and which ones aren't worth the investment. (Let's face it most of these new products are double the cost).  The truth is, although I always spend time examining the packaging and reading the ingredients I don't usually buy. I guess when it comes to my little ones skin, which is oh-so sensitive, I've been less of a risk taker sticking to old-school lotions and creams. Alas, I have tried a brand new line of natural skin care for babies called Mayron's Good Baby and I can honestly say it's good stuff. Good Baby was developed by Melanie Mayron who is a director, writer, Emmy-award winning actress, and blogger along with her chemist father. Together they spent twelve years developing the formulation down to the selection of each and every ingredient. "The entire Mayron’s Good Baby natural skin care line is free from synthetic fragrances, paraben, sodium lauryl sulfate, and DEA,” says Melanie. She even jokes that her cruelty-free products have never been tested on animals and instead, “only on actresses’ babies." I loved the calming smell and silky yet thick texture of the "Our Best" Barrier & Diaper Cream. When I read the ingredients which listed tons of vitamins like A, C, D, E , & F along with essential oils and shea …

I'll never forget my son's first masterpiece. As a recent member of the preschool "Mommy & Me" circuit, I was thrilled when my son made his first art collage. I jumped for joy at the mostly mommy manufactured piece of art. Heck! I even had it framed to cherish this memory. But what I really won't forget is the teacher saying  "Oh dear, this is just the beginning. You just wait!" Oh, and she wasn't kidding! So now what to do with all the art!?! We'll, I've dedicated a wall near the kitchen table to display my child's artistic talent (scribble to some). Each piece is hung on a taught wire and clipped with steel binder clips. Unfortunately, my kitchen is going under construction so no pics yet however, Tracy had the same idea a few months back and was featured on The Nesting Blog in this terrific "Kid Art Display" article full of ideas! Looking for something a little more manicured? The kidsArtStor offers a neat little invention that frames art, allowing you to rotate it within seconds to accommodate original works as they walk through the door. They also offer a handful of bright frame colors to choose from. The coolest and most ambitious gallery idea I dream of implementing comes from an article in the San Francisco Chronicle written a few years back by established writer, blogger and mom, Charlene Prince. Charlene features the work of SF designer M.F. Chapman. Don't you just LOVE this wall? Be …

My husband and I are always trying to come up with the right formula for putting the kids to bed. Just when we think we have a winning formula one of the kids gets sick, sprouts a tooth or just doesn't want to cooperate and what is supposed to take 15 minutes takes hours. One constant that soothes at night and nap time is music. Although it is absolutely true that children really do enjoy their own parents singing no matter how bad it may sound, there are some days when another a cappella version of Twinkle Twinkle just isn't happening. One of the best additions to the nursery has to be the MP3 player and docking station. Load it up with lullabies and happy dance music and whether you need some help at nighttime or are in the mood for an impromptu dance party during the day, you are prepared. Now that the iPod Nano comes in 9 vibrant colors you can coordinate with the nursery or playroom. I've got the new Touch on my holiday gift list so that when I'm racing through Trader Joe's with the kids to load up for the week I can whip it out at checkout for some instant babysitting (I call it a safety measure really). I love this petite docking station with speakers from JBL. The glossy white would be perfect for the nursery and is so compact would fit on a shelf or side table. If color is more your …

I'm embarrassed to admit that I currently have a fairly long list of overdue baby gifts I need to take care of. You would think that as a writer of a children's blog I would have endless ideas for great baby gifts, but just like everyone else I get stumped. I'm always on the hunt for new go-to gift websites for great baby and birthday presents. Enter Lisa Callanan and Christina Tedesco. These two women met through their two little girls on the first day of preschool in the fall of 2005. As they got to know each other they shared the idea of starting a business that centered on what they cherished most in life: their kids. 2 Little Stars was launched and today their business offers a full product line of stylish and personalized blankets, burp cloths, bibs, onesies, tees, tag blankets, personalized accessories and more. Every item is made of high quality, luxurious fabric along with a unique design that can be enjoyed by everyone. Project Nursery is a sucker for anything personalized such as the darling pony-tail holders and toddler letter tees. For that new baby, the handy burp cloths and tag blankets make wonderful newborn gifts. For a limited time, 2 Little Stars is offering a special discount to Project Nursery readers. Just enter code "PROJECTSTARS" at checkout and receive 10% off all orders. This offer is good through November 3rd. .

Months ago, I stumbled upon stamping sensation Jane Matsumoto's blog Whoopsie Daisy! via My Asian Heritage. It quickly became apparent that scrap booking isn't just for the books. I was drawn to Jane's baby onesie invitation created for her sister-in-law's baby shower and thought that our readers would also enjoy. Coincidentally, I heard from the Stampin' Up! corporate offices and was warmly welcomed into a whole new world, beyond the Michael's scrap booking aisle. Stampin' Up! is a real phenomenon founded by two sisters Levonne Crosby and Shelli Gardner. From filling orders in their living room to a 55-acre campus in Utah, Stampin' Up! is an impressive business model to say the least. Jane, a mother of two active little boys, preschool teacher, blogger and one of 50,000 Stampin' Up! reps squeezed in some time to answer a few of our newbie Stampin' questions... 1. How did you first learn about Stampin' Up! and what made you start Stampin'? A friend was a demonstrator and asked if I would like to host a workshop. I was hooked instantly! Keiji was a few months old and I was going through postpartum depression. This new hobby really helped me get focused on my passion for arts and crafts and get re-connected with friends. 2. Is there a favorite project that you've complete and can you share it with us? Yes! My sister-in-law's baby shower was the first time I ever hosted a baby shower and it was such a success! I really …

I don’t know about you, but during those early sleep-deprived days of new motherhood, I could have definitely used a little powered boost. At the time, I didn’t know it could have come from my nursery chair, but these powered up gliders are a game changer.
