Description
I wanted a nursery that would be personal and cozy. So I incorporated vintage fabrics from my grandmother, hung personal messages to the baby from friends and family, and constructed an all female family tree!
Design Inspiration
My inspiration started with some old fabrics my grandmother gave me. I started this nursery with the bird mobil and it developed from there.
Decorating Style
Generally speaking I want to say it is eclectic but I think it turns out more vintage in the end.
Project Details
Don't just accept items the way they are when you purchase them! I bought the furniture from ikea and attached the fabric myself. When she grows out of this I can remove the changing table and she will have shelves. I can also change the fabric inserts to something new.
Favorite Items
My favorite part of the nursery is the family tree. First I wrote the poem on the wall then collected old pictures from all the women in my family. I sat down with both sides of the family and learned all about our female history. We can actually trace back to the 1800's and I just LOVE the old photos!
Advice
Don't be affraid to mix and match...I used several different fabrics and patterns just in a similar tone. I also used the wrong side of several of the fabrics to give it a softer look.
Hi,
Could you please tell me how you attached the fabric to the walls of the crib???
Its a little of both. The branch is real, then I went to hobby lobby and got the branches of leaves. Make sure you get a pretty good size branch so you can screw it to the wall without it breaking.
What did you make the tree out of? Is it from a real tree or is it fake? I’ve been looking to do a similar thing for our baby boy coming this November but haven’t found the right materials yet.

I got the bird mobil idea from a website called spool sewing….here is the link, they provide the pattern for the birds! http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/2008/05/16/bird-mobile/
The rug is from ikea! I searched all over for a nice sheep skin rug, I found one at Sams for a competitive price and I also found several websites but they were a lot more expensive.
How’d you make that lovely lovely bird mobile??? And where’d you get that rug??? I love the individual pieces here because you just don’t see them too much anywhere else. And they come together wonderfully! With less than a month to go, little VA would surely be thrilled with this wonderful, wonderful room!
The family tree is great-a bit quirky, but really lovely.
And your take on the bird mobile is cool too.
I really like this room.
