Vintage Inspired Western Bedroom

Description

A fun vintage western nursery for our little buck-a-roo!

Design Inspiration

I wanted to create a fun vintage space, and was inspired by vintage western children books! I wanted the space to be kid friendly, a little kitschy, and low budget!

Decorating Style

I'm a collector, so I don't tend to shop home decor stores very often. I'm drawn to vintage items that hold a story.  I also like clean lines and very little clutter. I love to balance bold color with neutral tones, like wood.

Project Details

Almost 100% thrifted, yard saled, Craigslisted or a family memento. I DIYed the crib color from "oops" paint and my own chalk paint recipe, changing the outdated brown wood to a fun color.  The books and art were either yard sale finds or made by me. The tent was a Craigslist score for just $10!! I sewed the curtains from vintage fabrics that my in-laws sent me from Ohio. The only items we bought for the room were a can of paint for the shelves and some hardware to hang the curtains! You can find more details at www.AverieLane.com !

Favorite Items

My favorite item is the mid-century chair that I got for FREE at a yard sale. I recovered it in $1 yard linen type fabric and elk leather. It makes such a cozy reading spot and fits perfectly under the low pitched ceilings.

Advice

Search for those unique items that make your space one of a kind. You don't have to spend a fortune to achieve a cozy and fun room. Also take your time! We collected most of the items for this room over the last 18-20 months. Which allowed us to keep to a very very small budget!
