Twin Munchkin Nursery

Description

I wanted a happy, fun and neutral room for our soon-to-be born twins. The bright orange color on the feature wall makes me smile every time I walk into the room. Dad and grandpa painted the room a few months ago, and the rest of the nursery came together slowly since then.

All the furniture is neutral-black, white or grey, and other than the cribs, can be used in other rooms in our house once the twins are older. The biggest splurge was the chair. I opted not to go for a rocker/glider, so that we can use it in our basement family room later. Also, the chair is big and deep enough for me to doze in since there was no room for a day bed in this small room.

Design Inspiration

We started with the paint chips. I carried them around in my purse for a couple of months. The first purchase we made was the chair, then the rest of the room came together from there. Further inspiration came from some of the fabrics I found, and bright yellow became the second accent color along with the orange.

We also looked at this site quite a bit to see what others had done.

Decorating Style

I like to keep furniture and major purchases neutral, and use bright colors as accents.

Favorite Items

The hippo ottoman! I was orignally looking for a morrocan leather pouf to use as an ottoman, but fell in love with the hippo when I saw it. It's durable, and the kids can jump all over it once they're older. I foresee the twins will love it it!

Advice

We were shopping around for cribs, and had chosen ones we liked but had not bought them yet. For some reason, one of us had the epiphany to measure the room only to find out two regular cribs would not fit. I was really happy to find the mini cribs that fit perfectly. They are available from several online retailers-Wayfair, Target and Amazon, so shop around for the best price.

I don't think it is worth buying any nursery furniture that is not multi-use-as you only end up using it for a couple of years. For that reason, we bought a dresser instead of a change table (also great storage), a regular chair instead of a glider, and cribs that convert to twin beds, etc.

Such a sweet and pretty room. And I love what you said about entering it and you just cannot help but smile. I think that's what's most important of all when you're decorating any space in your house.
