Ah, the city life. There’s nothing quite like it. However space in the city often comes with it’s limitations. After many wonderful years in NYC, both Pam and I can very much appreciate the creativity that goes into decorating small spaces. Theo’s Mom Amanda and Grandmother pulled together a delightful, contemporary, clutter-free nursery. Their special touches and smart storage/shelving solution, make for plenty of room for baby!

Design Inspiration

We didn’t know what gender our baby would be, so we wanted something neutral but beautiful that would work for a boy or a girl. Coral red and robin’s egg blue were the perfect palette. We love the ocean, so the coral and fishnet fabrics reflect that. The room is tiny, so we had to go for a clean, uncluttered look.

Decorating Style

We love contemporary design with some eclectic accents thrown in for fun. Living in New York, one has to make the most out of small spaces, so we have to have multifunctional furniture.

Project Details

The crib and the changing table are by Baby Mod. They are the more affordable versions of similar styles by Oeuf.

The bedding was lovingly made by my talented mother. The fabrics came from purlsoho.com The designer is Joelle Hoverson.

Wallpaper ostrich: Inke Heiland

On the cloth storage boxes we hot glued the same red piping from the bedding to tie the design together.

Favorite Items

The bedding is definitely my favorite item in the room. The bumper and crib skirt are one-of-a-kind creations made by my mother, and I think of her every time I look at the crib! We also love the wallpaper ostrich decal. It adds a playful and colorful element to the room and has surprising depth.

Advice

Mounting the mirror above the changing table has been invaluable in making changing fun for both parents and baby. He loves to look at himself and us in the mirror. There’s no closet in the room so we made a storage solution using cloth boxes to store out of season and larger size clothing. We also made sure to buy a blackout shade for the window which helps during naptime.
