Southern Boy

Description

Little Hudson turned two!  I couldn't wait to throw a Southern Style bash for my little Southern Boy!

Design Inspiration

I have always adored all things in the South.  From southern magnolias to sitting on the porch in white rocking chairs sipping iced tea, I cannot imagine living anywhere else.  My husband is a southern gentleman with a thick southern accent that melts me every time!  Thank goodness our boys take after him!  I wanted Hudson’s 2nd birthday to represent our lifestyle & his roots.  He is my little southern gentleman from his love for sweet tea, barbecue, watermelon, country music, and all things in the dirt!  He even has his Daddy’s irresistible southern drawl and charm.  “Ain’t Nothin’ in the World like a Southern Boy” became the perfect idea for his birthday celebration!

Decorating Style

Inspired by my love of Southern Living magazine!  I wanted it fun yet crisp.  I love the elegance of all white but wanted to add a few bright & modern colors.

Project Details

We threw a good ole’ fashion back yard barbecue with playing in the sprinkler, swinging with friends, and playing in their play house.    We served barbecue, watermelon, strawberries, southern style potato salad, & slaw.  Desserts included vanilla cake & cupcakes, Moon Pies, banana pudding, apple pie, and Grandma’s homemade sugar cookies.  The biggest hit of the party was the “Sweeter in the South “style drink cart serving sweet tea, lemonade, and Cheerwine (a cherry soda sold only in the Carolina’s).

Southern boys love to go fishing so for the party favor, we had the children decorate fishing tackle boxes and fill them with bobbers & bait.

Favorite Items

The drink cart & the tackle box decorating station.  The kids loved playing in the sprinkler!  the adults loved drinking Cheerwine!

Advice

I loved having a theme that was all about Hudson & his roots!
