Sea Inspired Modern

Description

This client lives just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean and wanted the sea to be an underlying theme in a modern setting. She was not afraid to use bold colors and embraced the energy that the painted ceiling and bold fabrics created in the nursery.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration for the room came from the Wave Navy/Apple fabric carried by Bebe Chic.  We designed a custom bedding set around this fabric first, then selected the artwork and furniture and lastly the paint and rug.  The client already had the crib so that also set a more modern tone to the room.

Decorating Style

This client has a fresh contemporary style but this is definitely the most dramatic room in her house.  But she loves it so I'm excited to see how she changes the rest of her home now.

Project Details

Since the client is planning to move in a few months, she did not want to spend a fortune on window treatments but they needed some pizazz. I shared THIS DIY link with her from Cheap & Chic Nursery and she and her mother made the cornice themselves.  I truly love everything about this room, we are planning on adding a pillow with green trim to the bed, it was just on backorder.

Favorite Items

The Oilo pendant light was a key piece in the room as well as the rug.  The rug was not a necessity since she has beautiful wooden floors, but it pulls the room together since there is yellow in the artwork.  It also helps keep the room from being only blue, white, and green.

Advice

Don't be afraid to paint the ceiling or add lighting to a room.  And I always say, pick your paints last!

Love green and navy together! I was wondering what the green color is as I want to paint my boys room a green.

Andrika, I think the combination of deep blue and deep green is a lovely combination, it helps that you’ve added really random bursts of color here as it helps liven up the room.  Also, thanks for sharing your resources, these items are delightful!

Cyame, I was able to find more fabric than 4 yards, please e-mail me if you need to order any.

The paint on the main walls is white painted to match the trim.  Yes the Navy/Apple Wave fabric is now discontinued.  I can get 4 yards of it though, enough to make a bumper or a skirt. If you are interested e-mail me at nurserynotations@gmail.com

Because we don’t want to find out the sex of the baby ahead of time, I decided immediately that I wanted a navy & kelly green nursery.  After mush searching on the internet, I found this pic & I love it!!  The only problem is is that I love the pattern but would like to use the fabric to make the crib bedding a little different and Bebe Chic doesn’t carry it anymore.  Do you know where I can find the fabric?  It is perfect for me!!

I LOVE THIS! Great color scheme! What color paint did you use for the main walls… is it white or a light blue?

I love how you offset the dark colors of the ceiling and wall with the light carpet
