Sam’s Nautical Nursery

Description

A nautical, or "well traveled" nursery inspired by family history.

Design Inspiration

When we found out we were expecting, I immediately knew I wanted to do some nautical touches, to honor my late father (he served in the navy). I decided to honor my husband's father as well, and both sets of Sam's great grandfathers so no one was left out. Four out of the six men were in the navy, one went to military school and the other flew private planes. So, It ended up turning into a "well traveled" room, I was able to tie it all in with the flying plane, suitcase, and world map. I bought things all along the way, and it ended up exactly how I envisioned it to.

Project Details

The furniture all came from Target. It is the Simmons Madisson Collection.

The chalkboard baskets, milk crates, and small globe all came from Target as well.

The map letters on the family wall were made by my mother. The letters can be purchased from Hobby Lobby. She cut parts of maps that my husband and I have traveled too. :) The letters were about $4 dollars a piece and we already had the maps. If you don't want to make them, you can purchase the map letters from Urban Outfitters for $14 bucks each.

The flying plane, hanging anchor hooks, hanging boat, lighthouse on the book shelf, "Work like a pirate" saying, and ship in a bottle all came from Hobby Lobby.

The world map, and bedding came from Babies R Us. I believe they have discontinued the anchor sheets. :(

The anchor on the wall, hanging oar, and lamp all came from Kirklands.

The rug I scored at HomeGoods!

The wooden boat on the bookshelf was hand made by a family member! :)

The variety of frames I already had, and unmentioned decor I already had and pulled from other rooms!

Favorite Items

My favorite part of the room is Sam's "great wall of great men". Everytime I walk into Sam's room I just smile, because I can't wait to tell him all about the line of men he comes from. I wanted to create a room that I wanted to hang out in, and it turned out to be my favorite room in the entire house!
