Ryder’s Dr. Seuss Nursery

Description

Dr. Seuss has set this nursery project in motion! We have been blessed with the news of a baby boy! We are beyond ecstatic for him to be here!!! He is going to be one special little boy and deserves a very special love filled nursery. Hopefully we can get it done before the end of July. Thanks for folllwing our progress!

Design Inspiration

It's a Seussical Nursery for Ryder!! I love how animated Dr. Seuss books are and all the vibrant color combinations he used.  My inspiration for the color scheme was Thing 1 Thing 2: teal, red and white. I started with getting the bumper from Cottage Belles on ETSY which jump started the whole project.

Second-Hand Makeovers

DIY

I LOVE bright colors.

Paint is my makeover friend.

Project Details

DIY was very important to me in order to keep the cost down to furnish and decorate the nursery. All the pieces of furniture--except the crib--are secondhand. To makeover the dresser, glider and side table, with the paint and accessories, the cost was under $150.

The trunk was also a thrift find. I just stripped it, put on batting and fabirc and now it's a bench with storage.

Book ledges were easy and turned out perfect--just google book ledge for directions. With a small space, it's important to move your storage UP.

Favorite Items

The BUMPER from Cottage Belles on www.etsy.com, it turned out just perfect. I picked out the three fabrics and she put it all together.

The DRESSER was a labor of love. I found it at a thrift shop for $40 and it was all original wood. To transform it to the beauty that it is; I sanded it, then primed it, then painted it. It evolved from an old brown stain to a bright white. I also changed the hardware to the stainless steal knobs which were $2.47 a piece.

Advice

Search, search and do your research. Drop in those thrift shops! There are a lot of pieces out there that could look perfectly brand new with just some paint. Paint is THE best makeover for any room or furniture. It's simple and cheap.

Choose your pieces with fabric first and pull colors from there to make the room come together.

Happy decorating!!
