Rosalie’s Whimsical Owl DIY Nursery

My husband and I wanted a whimsical/animal themed nursery for our first baby. We love birds and are avid bird watchers. Our wedding was bird and nature themed. So when I found the Owl fabric on Fabric.com, I was in love and envisioned Rosalie's nursery. The whole nursery was DIY, Project Nursery and Pinterest inspired. I wanted it to be personal and not trendy but unique!

Decorating Style

I would say my decorating style was all about matching and coordinating with the Owl fabric. I think that Rosalie's nursery holds the traditional components but is contemporary with the fabric that I picked by Michael Miller Retro Forest collection. 

Also, I tried to create some transitional items in her room. All the wall art will stay in her room hopefully until she is older, as well as the bookshelves, fabric balls and the beautiful quilt that was made by her grandma.

From the beginning we planned on painting the nursery a light gray (being a boy or girl) but we skipped since we plan on moving at the end of the year.

Favorite Items

Most of the books that we got at a local non-profit bookstore..which were FREE in downtown Baltimore. I was super excited to find the Owl lamp base on Target.com. Adding the white Rosettes made it a favorite. I think there are a lot of items that can be transitional for Rosalie in the future, which really make them a favorite! 

Advice

I say to keep it simple and search the internet for fun ideas!  You don't have to spend tons of money on baby furniture and items. I was amazed by all of the Craigslist finds we found for our nursery and baby! We cut our costs in half and I was able to concentrate on DIY sewing projects which was very meaningful!
