Playhouse Makeover

Description

We took a ho-hum garden shed and turned it into a vintage inspired playhouse, complete with hand-painted floors, faux fireplace and chalkboard!

Design Inspiration

We were inspired by a vintage metal tool box and a salesman's sample size ice cream parlor dinette set. Each were yard sale  finds!

Decorating Style

Modern Vintage- I like to take vintage/retro elements and re-imagine them in a modern way. I love to combine clean lines with vintage details.

Project Details

It didn't take but a couple cans of paint, some yard sale finds and a little creativity to totally transform this shed into a pint sized "dream house".

We started by painting the floors "Tropical Coral" by Glidden( mine ended up a couple shades lighter than the color swatch because I had it mixed with a light base). I designed a pattern for the floor inspired by vintage linoleum and hand painted it on. We then used chalkboard paint to do a faux wainscot treatment on the wall, complete with hooks to hang tiny buckets for chalk storage- one for each grand child. My dad built a fireplace mantel and a bookshelf and I drew on and painted a fire silhouette. We also painted the kitchen cabinets in Minty Green-by Glidden. Leaving the stove white, just like in a real kitchen. Many of the pieces including the vintage enamelware were from yard sales and antique stores. We left the salesman sample sized table and chairs black so that they really pop against the green! I would love for you to check out the whole redo on my blog - Dimples and Pig Tales

Favorite Items

The kitchen hutch! My grandpa built it for my mom when she was just a little girl! The green color really allows the original linoleum counter to pop!

Advice

I love how this space turned out! I recommend formulating a game plan, gathering inspiration- like my Pinterest Board, and then just going for it! We did this whole project start to finish in less than a week!
