For our daughter’s nursery, I wanted to create a space that would transition seamlessly to a little girl’s bedroom. I chose timeless furniture pieces in classic white to set the tone for the room, playing off of the “bobble” look of the Jenny Lind crib. The dollhouse-style bookshelf and scalloped wall shelves add playful touches to the room that I hope inspire hours of imagination.
I fell in love with a set of blush gingham curtains, and decided to use colors and patterns that would complement them. My favorite piece in the room is a painting of two young girls that I found in an online antique shop. It evokes memories of girlhood friendships, and is especially nostalgic to me since I grew up with two sisters. I love the painting’s vintage frame and beautiful muted colors. Another special piece is the white wooden rocking chair, which I found discarded on the side of the road and refinished to match the rest of the furniture.
My best advice to fellow nursery-decorators is cliched but true – use Pinterest to gather inspiration! I spent many leisurely afternoons while my baby napped on Pinterest, finding the perfect colors, patterns, and designs for this room. It was helpful to have an inspiration board where all my ideas could live while I planned. Also, don’t be afraid to search for unique pieces in antique and second-hand shops – you never know what treasures you’ll find!
