Pink, Yellow & Gray Owl Nursery

Description

I wanted an owl nursery for our little girl, but wanted to do it my way ;) The pink, yellow, and gray is pulled together throughout the room, with a little touch of owl.

Design Inspiration

I was loving the gray and yellow color scheme, but wanted to throw in some hot pink since we are having a girl. I am loving the owl decor, but wanted to do it in a more subtle way. So I took several ideas (mostly from Pinterest,) and made them into my own.

Decorating Style

This is my first real decorating attempt, so I guess it would be more of a modern spin.

Project Details

We are a military family and move often, so painting at this point in time was not an option. So I ordered these Vipe Stripes from Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/blackbrocade) in contrasting grays to add color to the wall. This time around, I wanted to make my own crib set to make it truly unique. I am in love with the owl design, but all the fabric I could find was a little over the top. I found this hand printed fabric, also on Etsy, and couldn't be more happy with the print! (http://www.etsy.com/shop/melbomba). I used the owl print for the inside of the bumper pads, and a yellow chevron for the outside. I used the pink as the ties. The sheet was made from hot pink jersey knit, and the crib skirt was made with a variety of fabrics with the yellow, gray and pink (all from Hobby Lobby.) The pattern I used was from this site found on Pinterest (http://www.positivelysplendid.com/2012/01/ruffled-crib-skirt-tutorial-nursery-bedding-reveal.html) but I didn't make the ruffle for the back side. The diaper pad cover was made from hot pink minky. The mobile was inspired from this Pinterest link (http://www.chintzycouture.com/2011/10/tulle-pom-pom-tutorial.html) in the coordinating colors of the room. I used a silhouette of an owl to create custom art for the walls. The small seating area is an Ikea shelf turned on its side with a custom made cushion. The owls on the wall I found from Target and painted them. The chair in the corner was recovered in a shower curtain I found from Target, and the hanging lanterns give just a touch of light. The simple owl decal was ordered from Ebay (decalyourwall) in custom colors of the room. I tried to pull the room together with the curtains that had the yellow but copying the polka dots from the crib set.

Favorite Items

My favorite item has to be the crib set! I worked really hard on it and I think it pulls all the elements I wanted together.

Are those owls in the embroidery hoops fabric prints or embroidered?

Well, I have seen yellow and gray nurseries, and pink and gray, too. But this is the first time I'm seeing a yellow, pink and gray one. I'm still quite not sure if I totally like this color combination. It's just new for me, I guess. But it's not offensive though.
