Peaceful, Calm, Twin Girl Nursery

Description

This is my twin girls' nursery.

Design Inspiration

I had no idea what to do with a girl room (I had a boy first), and then I found the bedding, which I absolutely loved, and colors and everything else just sort of came from there.  The main thing is I wanted a peaceful and calm room for the girls.

Decorating Style

I really have no idea what I'm doing.  I like more modern and contemporary, but traditional seems to find its way in too.

Project Details

The cribs were the first thing I got actually (Carter's Sleephaven crib from Babies R Us).  I really like the back of the crib being like a headboard, it was something a little bit different, but still in my price range.  I had no idea what to do from there.  Then I found the bedding (Lulu by Glenna Jean), which I fell in love with.  I loved that it wasn't pink, but still had one of my favorite colors, green.  I chose the wall color from the bedding.  I wanted a peaceful, calming feel in the nursery, so I went with a dusty lavender color (Benjamin Moore, Lavender Ice).

I really wanted something interesting on the wall and ran across these vinyl decals that you can apply to the wall that look like it was painted on.  I surfed through Etsy (love that site!) and found the tree with the names (Simple Shapes on Etsy.com).  It originally came with birds, but since I had already purchased the butterfly mobile, I requested to change the birds to butterflies.  I love how it all came out - and its easily removable for when they get older!

Fabric Frames - I really loved the crib bumper fabric, but knew that I would be removing the bumpers once my girls started rolling.  That made me sad because the bumper was my inspiration for the room!  Because the back of the crib is like a headboard...no place to tie the bumper, a friend suggested that I take that fabric and create artwork for the walls.  So I took the 4 fabric swatches that I got from the bumper and had them each stretched onto a 16 x 16 wooden frame at Fast Frame and hung them on the wall.  It ties the room colors together so beautifully.

Butterfly mobile - Pottery Barn Kids

Recliner - Babies R Us

Bookcase - Land of Nod

Curtains - Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen

Favorite Items

I have two favorite items:

  1. I love the butterfly mobile over the chair by Pottery Barn Kids.  It's so peaceful, and the girls love to look up at it when we're rocking.
  2. And I absolutely LOVE the bumper fabric frames on the wall!  They look like artwork and when I took the bumpers out of their cribs, I was still able to keep the fabric tied into the look of the room.  This was important to me because the bumper fabric was my inspiration.

Advice

I had pieces of ideas for what I wanted for their room, but didn't know how to pull it all together.  I looked on Project Nursery and I asked several friends for help and their ideas on how to do it and from there, I was able to create a room I absolutely loved.  Don't feel you have to do it all on your own.  Ask for help and ideas and just take what works for you.

@Molly, yes, I got it all from Simple Shapes.  The set she had displayed on her etsy site showed the tree with birds.  I just asked her switch out the birds for butterflies and took exactly what she had, name fonts and all from her sample picture.  Let me know if you can’t find it and I will send you a link.

Congratulations on the twins!  I would also look up the baba buddy – bottle propers, which help with feeding both bottles at the same time (if you end up on bottles.)  Its a huge time saver with twins!  Good luck.

Hi I really love this room. I’m expecting twin girls in September and I plan to use the tree decal which I found on Etsy. . can you tell me where you found the names, assuming it’s a different Etsy seller since I didn’t see them under Simple Shapes. I really like the font. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

@1ontheway – Please don’t be jealous…after your comment, I noticed I had the typed the year wrong!  My girls were already born this last October, 2010 — NOT 2011!  Yikes…I really would have been on it, huh?  :) No, actually, I didn’t pull their room together until I think a month before they were born…and then didn’t get it on here until just now.

My room color is Benjamin Moore – Lavender Ice.

Congratulations on your baby and good luck with your room.
