Our Little Mermaid is turning TWO!

Description

Our little mermaid is turning two and we celebrated under the sea style!

Design Inspiration

I grew up loving the movie The Little Mermaid so it became my inspiration for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. I didn't want to theme the party around a character so I just used the mermaid and under the sea theme and ran with it! I was very excited to create an under the sea fantasy for our little mermaid! I wanted it to be bright, fun and full of fun surprises for all the mermaids and mermen who were attending!

Decorating Style

Creative, fun, bright and unique!

Project Details

Everything for my daughter's party was handmade by me. I put a lot of thought and work into every detail. My Cricut and sewing machine sure did get a workout with this party! LOL!

Favorite Items

My favorite items of this party include:

1.The stuffed mermaid tails for the mermaid and mermen to wear! The kids LOVED these and it was so cute to see a bunch of little mermaids and mermen running around the party!

2.The mermaid on the wall. I hand drew this and cut it out of poster board. The tail was gorgeous with all of the 3d scales!

3. The jelly fish! I just love how they turned out!

4. The terra cotta pot sea animals! They were adorable and the guest loved them!

5. The CAKE! My SIL is amazing when it comes to cakes and she did not disappoint! It was very detailed and GORGEOUS!!!

Advice

Pick a theme and run with it! I love over the top! When making something make it a little bigger than you think you need and the impact will be amazing! You can't go wrong when you put love and hard work into everything you create! :)

Hello and thank you! :) The kids actually wore the mermaid tails behind them held on by elastic around the waist. I hope this helps!

Beautiful party! I love everything! I am having a similar type party for my daughter and was wondering if the mermaid tail sat in front of the children with the elastic holding it on…or if their legs went inside with the stuffing?

  6. avatar Candy says:

This is just too precious! I was wondering if you could tell me what you used to decorate the ceiling with? The blue fabric? And the green seaweed? What is that?? Could you email me at [email protected] if you see this message. Thanks!!!

about how much do you think each tail cost to make? Gorgeous party!

  8. avatar melissa greer says:

Hi! Sorry, I didn’t see this comment. I hand drew the tails onto wrapping paper to create the pattern. From there I cut them out of felt, added the trim and tulle, then sewed together at the sides, stuffed, added elastic for the kids’ waists and stitched the top closed. :) They were a fairly easy project! Please ask if you have any more questions. :)

  9. avatar melissa greer says:

Thank you! I made my own pattern using left over wrapping paper. :)

Thank you!! :) I actually bought shell bras at the dollar store, took them apart and used the existing holes to thread them together with ribbon! The letters were cut out on my cricut and attached with pop dots. It was a very easy project! :)

Thank you so much for all your kind words, Nella! :) :) I LOVE creating most of my decor with paper, I feel it is a very economical way to create the party I have envisioned! I find it fun and exciting to create my parties in the most cost effective way possible, thus making everything myself. The hunt of finding a bargain is thrilling! LOL!! :)
