Olivia’s Nursery

Description

We started transitioning my hubby Antz's office in March and yesterday we had the final piece *our glider* delivered. The artwork in the room is made by my husband *he's an artist* and he also handmade the mobile *which is us, our soon-to-be daughter Olivia, our dog Maxwell and our cat Lola. Anthony still shares his office with Olivia but we feel his area is cohesive to the room.

Design Inspiration

The first piece that inspired our nursery was the Sasquatch Music Festival Print by Invisible Creature. Once we had the color palette we ran with it. We designed the room to be gender friendly because we started the room before we knew we were having a girl. We added the pink features after we knew for sure.

Decorating Style

We definitely lean towards modern but we love vintage too. In the nursery most of our "vintage" pieces are from Anthropologie. We also LOVE color.

Favorite Items

My favorite piece in the nursery is the mobile my husband made. We had the hardest time finding a store-bought mobile in the right color that didn't scream mass-produced. I love that it's personal and has an organic feel. The second favorite in the room is the bird hook we put on the side of her hutch to hang her hooded lamb towel. We wanted to incorporate birds in the room in a subtle way. There are also birds on the curtain rod and on the doorknob. My third favorite thing in her room is the painting my husband did for Olivia. It's a *friendly* sea creature playing, out of curiosity, with a boat that has our soon-to-be daughter on it. I love the colors and the adventure sense behind it. We want our daughter to be just as fearless as the painting portrays.

Advice

Invest in pieces that will last for years, our glider is our biggest splurge because I am 5'10" and my hubby is 6" so we needed a chair that would accommodate our height. We also wanted a chair that wouldn't look dated in her room in the future. The dark brown is neutral so if wanted to, we could use the chair in our den. Also DIY, we made the *Olivia* banner for her door when we couldn't find the perfect letters in stores. It was a fraction of the price and has a unique look.
