My children's rooms are my sanctuary during the day. This room needed to do double duty because we don't have a separate play area. That being said, I still wanted it to feel like a nursery and a place that was her own special space.
The painting in the red frame was the inspiration. Little did I know at the time, but Olive's namesake painted it. Felt like it was meant to be. Which is what I love about taking my time designing rooms- it all has a way of coming together on it's own.
Using the "crap" I've got! I love to use something I already have and make it work or make it better. This room is full of those projects.
This room is mostly hand me downs, DIY's, or repurposed items!
Jenny Lind Crib: Amazon
Charleston Rocker: Pottery Barn Kids
Lamp: Target clearance for $6!
Frames: IKEA - just spray painted
Doll: Gift to my mother from my dad
LOVE Pillow: Target
ABC Pillow: repurposed the stitching I've had since I was a child into a pillow
Tent: DIY- just added pompom trim & tied extra fabric from curtains around the polls
Curtains: King size sheet I found at TJMaxx on clearance and turned into panels- just added pompom trim I found on amazon
Crib Skirt: used a $5 twin flat sheet from Walmart to make skirt
Knobs: White/gold are from Hobby Lobby & color wheel knobs are from Anthropologie I purchased years ago...
"Anywhere" Chair: a thrift store find (for $2.92!!)- just made new cover
Nail Art: I had nails and I had the string which equals a win, win in my book!
My great grandmother's high school diploma- the same grandmother who did the painting in the red frame and who Olive is named after...
Take your time and don't over do it! Use pieces that have meaning and purpose and I promise the room will come together.
