Nautical Boy’s Nursery

Description

Our nautical nursery is a tribute to life on the high seas for a very lucky little boy! Since this was a small room, we started with the addition of a built-in shelving unit and window bench seat that opens up for additional storage. Next we added a high cream colored wainscoting to provide a beach-home feel to the room. We found this royal blue convertible crib discounted at a local furniture store and thought it would be perfect for a nautical themed nursery. I found this cute nautical ceiling light fixture online for only $40 and spray-painted it red to coordinate with the custom painted Sherri Blum Nautical Wall Hanging. I found the "Row Row Row Your Boat" wooden letters for only $2 each at a local discount craft store and painted them white and hung them randomly across the wall to add a touch of whimsy to the nursery. We finished up with custom bedding, window treatments, bench cushions, and rug to tie this nautical nursery neatly together for a custom look without breaking the bank.

Design Inspiration

Parents loved the beach and boating!

Decorating Style

I combine my design experience and knowledge with the dreams and style of the client to complete a room that they will love. Each room reflects my client's style.

Project Details

Use the cube. Take advantage of the walls in a small room and add built-in shelving and storage benches when possible. We all know that kids have lots of toys and gadgets that need proper homes!

Favorite Items

The window bench seat. I can just imaging Mommy or Daddy cuddling up on the bench with baby to read story books each night!

Advice

Find discount lighting and spray paint it to coordinate with the room for a custom designed feel. I spray paint EVERYTHING!

Thank you for your kind compliment! The rug is from the Kelly Rightsell collection and is adorable!  The reading nook was a favorite here. Make sure the cushion is thick and comfy in these areas so it remains inviting and comfy over the years. Never skimp on the foam!

Great ideas for maximizing a small room.  I love how the shelves and the window creates a cozy alcove for you and your little one.  I love the lighting fixture as well, I think that that is the best addition here.  Also, where'd you get that rug???
