Naturally Neutral Nursery

Description

We created a calming neutral nursery design for a client in Los Angeles who wanted a room which could be used for a nursery multiple times without needing to change the decor. Since the parents are world-travelers we designed a sophisticated global themed room.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration for the design came from the Clarke & Clarke gold and off-white Globetrotter wallpaper.  Although the pattern of classical global landmarks is very busy, the subtle color and line-drawn design create a beautiful backdrop for the walls.  There little need for any additional artwork since the design creates a dynamic pattern all over the room.

Decorating Style

These clients have a classically designed home with decorative accents accumulated from their travels. They live a very active lifestyle and want their home to be comfortable and relaxing.

Project Details

Crib - Devon by Newport Cottages

Wallpaper - Globetrotter by Clarke & Clarke

Paper Mache Hippo - West Elm

Camel Print - The Animal Print Shop

The glider & bookcase were custom designed

Favorite Items

My favorite item in the room is the dresser. I like that the design is sophisticated but it is made out of a rustic worn oak which brings some decorative depth to the room.

Advice

I like each family to add personal touches to rooms I design with artwork or photos which they have taken or collected over the years. There is a nice series of family photos (not shown in these photos) which shows generations of both sides of the family.

[…] Since we live in earthquake country, we opted out of putting any decorative items right above the crib. This room turned out to be such a calming and serene place, perfect for babies. For more images of the room and information on decorative sources please visit the gallery. […]

desert theme? I personally think it's too dry and sandy. maybe some more pops of bright colors here and there are needed.
