Modern Meets Rustic Boy Nursery

Description

Designing and decorating our son's nursery was by far the most gratifying project since purchasing our home five years ago. Generally, I love to decorate, but creating a personal, safe and loving space for our little one filled me with a new kind of joy. A joy that felt warm and tremendously sweet.

There was never a theme. Only a vision of classic colors, clean lines and touches of rustic textures. I wanted the space to feel soft and organic while also youthful and functional. Each detail should be thoughtfully considered and carefully chosen.

Some of my favorite elements of Brooks' nursery are the blue striped shiplap wall, wire book hangers and personal pieces incorporated from my and my husband's childhood nurseries. My most favorite element is one you can't even see. While installing the shiplap, my husband and I each wrote messages to Brooks on the wall behind. I love knowing those sweet words from his two biggest fans sit quietly above his crib.

My advice to those planning their nurseries -

  • Find a style that really speaks to you. Search for inspiration in elements that make you feel happy, comforted and nostalgic.
  • Take your time and enjoy the process! Preparing for baby can be overwhelming. Bringing your nursery vision to life should be fun!
  • Do your research on designing a functional space. The prettiest nursery won't serve you well if the diapers are out of reach.
  • Shop around! We found great deals online and in discount stores. Nurseries don't have to break the bank.
