A Modern Coral & Aqua Elephant Safari Nursery

Description

My client and her husband honeymooned in Africa and we decided a subtle elephant safari nursery would be a lovely nod to that trip.  I don't love to design overly themed rooms so you won’t find a lot of traditional safari elements in the room.  Instead, I chose to incorporate some subtler elements and keep the overall look really light and happy but with some textures to warm it up.  The room is small and wasn’t all that interesting to start out with.  Some wide horizontal stripes and a coral pink ceiling fixed that.

Design Inspiration

The mom and dad-to-be's African safari honeymoon.

Favorite Items

The ridiculously adorable quilt that the client’s mother-in-law MADE HER (!!!!)  It’s nothing short of spectacular.  She picked out all the fabrics to coordinate with the room (there’s a coral pink trim you can’t see in this photo) and designed the whole thing.

Advice

Be careful when you pick a very specific color for your room design.  Coral can be tricky.  To some people it's more orange, to others it's more pink.  Don't get too hung up on matching a shade EXACTLY.  In my experience, unless 2 items are literally right next to each other or right on top of each other, your eye can't discern subtle differences in hues.

Was never able to find someone who had a pattern… but for our little guy, my mom (the quilter) found a family friend who likes to draw, and had her sketch out two elephants and used that as her pattern. It turned out so amazing and could be a cheap project to have a local art student or someone do.

My niece is expecting a baby in September and spotted this quilt and asked if I could make it. Is the pattern available for sale? I have found numerous elephant patters online, however this large african mom and baby elephant is difficult to find.

did anyone find the quilt pattern?

I too am hoping to find the elephant quilt pattern. It is by far the best I’ve seen. Please let me know if you have a source.

Love the quilt. My niece and her husband had been trying for years for a baby. A friend passed on a small ceramic elephant and told her it was a symbol of fertility in Asian cultures. Well it worked. She’s due September. I must make an elephant quilt. Is there any way I can get just the elephants drawing? I would greatly appreciate it and be willing to pay. Please email me and let me know. Thanks

It’s a long shot … but do you know if the MIL had a pattern for the quilt. I absolutely love it and was hoping to do something similar.

I am in love with the quilt pictured here! Would you be able to share the pattern used? I would love to create a similar quilt for my safari themed nursery.

  12. […] This lovely nursery room has a design inspired by the African safari adventure. But even though the theme is wild and adventurous, the décor is simple, serene and really friendly. A few strategically-chosen accent pieces and details let the theme break through and give character to the décor.{found on projectnursery}. […]
