Advice

If you see something when you are out shopping and not sure how it will fit into the nursery, just get it and somehow it will work! Also purchase timeless functional furniture that will last for years.

Always add different textures and patterns into the room

If your scared of color accessorize with pops of color leaving furniture and paint colors neutral

Your room design inspired my baby girl’s room. Thank you! My daughter was born at 25 wks and I spent many nights in her room painting as therapy. She was in NICU for 5 months and 1 day…so again, Thank you for the inspiration and indirect therapy. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

  8. avatar DeWood says:

It was great to share my daughters nursery! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!!!!

  9. avatar DeWood says:

I lost the paper to the yarn. Sorry I know it was a soft yarn found for making baby blankets that I got at Joanns

  10. avatar DeWood says:

    Awe Thank you so much!

  11. avatar DeWood says:

I believe they are a foot each. We just divided it by the wall size (8ft)

  12. avatar babygio10 says:

    how wide are the stripes?

  13. avatar Lisa Schrock-Magliari says:

I have been addicted to painting my daughters room like this ever since I found your pictures on Pinterest. She will be 3 so we have to make a few adjustments to adapt to her age. I really wish i had found your site sooner because we already bought the paint. I only hope the gray we picked looks as good as the gray on your striped wall. Thank you for sharing your ideas and all the websites. This was very helpful!!

  14. avatar Bella says:

This is inspirational! We are becoming a Resource Family , and this nursery idea is modern, feminine, and creative ( like me :-) ) One question: what shade of gray is the yarn used to make the chevron blanket?

  15. avatar Lisa says:

What color did you use for the trim?

  16. avatar Hayley says:

Thank you so much for posting this with so many details about everything including where to get everything from! I am so thankful because now my little girl’s nursery is coming together. Thank you for posting about the details for the wall colors and name above the crib. I love your blog!

  17. avatar Sydney Bridges MacIntyre says:

Hello, We love the room!! I actually have a couple of questions about the paint?? I got a sample of the compass-and does it have a lot of green undertones once it is on the wall?? My sample has a lot of green to me!! And did you paint the whole room in The serengeti dust?? I am going to be doing my 3rd grandbaby’s room similar to this!! Beautiful project!!

  18. avatar DeWood says:

    Thanks!!!!

  19. avatar DeWood says:

Thanks Kimberly. The stripes are gray with a gloss to the paint and off white like a beige with no gloss. Hope that helps!

  20. avatar Kimberly says:

I absolutely love this room!!!! I am doing my daughters room and want to follow this room, I want to do just one wall stripes and the others off white like you did. Quick question…..are the gray stripes, gray and bright whtie or gray and off white like the other walls??

Someone gave that to me- They got it from work as a promotional thing for purell so I’m not sure if they sell it any where.

  25. avatar TDC says:

I was wondering which curtain panels were they exactly that you got from Ikea?

  26. avatar T.Jones says:

As odd as this may sound, one of my favorite things is the little holder you have for the antibacterial hand soap. Where did you find that? I’ve been looking but haven’t been able to find it.

  27. avatar T.Jones says:

Try etsy.com. I found something almost exactly the same on there!

  28. avatar dewood says:

Thanks so much! No i don’t think it was that green to me. More of a brownish gray if that makes sense. Hope all works out!

  29. avatar dewood says:

I think it will look great. I have a lot of the gray and white polka dot fabric left. If you are interested I could sell it to you. email me and i can send you a picture of it

  30. avatar Linda says:

Love the darling nursery! I am painting the stripes for an 18 year old girls room. I went to Home Depot and ordered the behr compass. But it looks a bit green to me. Is that how yours is?

  31. avatar First time mom says:

I’ve been looking for the gray and white polka dot fabric EVERYWHERE and everywhere is back ordered! How do you think white with gray polka dots would look? Do you think it would be too much white with all the white furniture?

  32. avatar DominiqueGAT says:

    Thanks :)

  33. avatar dewood says:

Thank you! The stripes are 1ft each

  34. avatar DominiqueGAT says:

Do you know what is the size of the stripes ??? It’s so beautiful ! I want to make that !!!

  35. avatar dewood says:

not exactly sure the name of the flowers! I purchased them at Joanns during Spring season in there seasonal flowers. I picked a dark and light pink flower. Sorry I don’t Know the name.

  36. avatar Tiffany says:

what kind(s) of flowers did you use on the “M”?

  37. Great colors! So sweet.

  38. avatar dewood says:

Awwee Thank you! No I didn’t cover it. You know Ikea, they probably sell it but once you go down to pick up the shade they are sold out! Maybe they have it at another location or maybe you could call to see if they sell it anymore.

  39. avatar Jen says:

This nursery is so cute! Did you cover your lamp shade? I can’t find that color pink at ikea… I’m wondering if they don’t sell it anymore?

  40. avatar dewood says:

She did not have a pattern. I gave her measurements from my crib and she made it up herself. Sorry i couldn’t help :(

  41. avatar dewood says:

I got them from Ikea- I think they have pink, black and bright green there.

  42. avatar dewood says:

I got them from Ikea- I think they have pink, black and bright green there.

  43. avatar Amber says:

I read that you said a friend made the bedding for you. Do you by chance know where she got the patterns from? Thanks!

  44. avatar carsin says:

Hi – could you let me know where you got your fabric bins from? I have the same Expedit pc from Ikea and was planning on using as both changing table and dresser but I can’t find any colorful bins that are perfectly sized like yours?

  45. avatar dewood says:

  46. avatar A says:

what size is the mache letter?

  47. avatar dewood says:

It is glued onto a paper mache “M” found at Joanns or other craft stores like Hobby Lobby.

  48. avatar Kelsey says:

What are the flowers on the M glued to and where did you get it? I saw you got the flowers at Joannes. What the base for the M found there too?

  54. avatar jewels says:

Can you tell me what kind of flowers you used? Thank you!

  55. avatar oria07 says:

hello, what did you use to hold your paper mache’ letter?

  56. avatar DeWood says:

    12″

  57. avatar Naomi Shari says:

    How thick are the stripes?

  58. avatar DeWood says:

I got the pink “piping” at Joann’s, I’m not exactly sure of the name. I got it in the aisle where you can get as much piping as you need. As for the pink ties on the bumper, I got that t Joann’s Called shocking pink #1497437

  59. avatar MEGAN says:

What is the color of the pink on the crib bumper? I can’t seem to find that bright of a pink on the http://www.babybedding.com when trying to put together a similar look! Please let me know. THIS IS ADORABLE!

  60. avatar Lora says:

    thank you!

  61. avatar Dewood says:

I did 3 rows of each color, 23 rows, total of 69 rows. I singled crochet the pink on the edges

  62. avatar Lisa Jackson says:

Thank you! I kinda get it… I’m pretty new at crocheting as well. This will be my first afghan.. How many rows do you crochet of one color before switching? and how many rows total… do you remember?

  63. avatar dewood says:

no it was not online my friend made her own pattern, here is the pattern i used:
    crochet hook: J
    CHAIN 104
DC IN 4TH CH FROM HOOK
    DC IN NEXT 5 CH
DC3TOG, DC IN NEXT 5 CH
    3 DC IN NEXT CH
    REPEAT TO END
    2DC IN LAST CH
    CH3 TURN
DC IN SAME LOOP AS CHAIN
    DC IN NEXT 6 LOOPS
    CONTINUE WITH PATTERN
NOT SURE IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE PATTERN OR NOT BUT
I just learned to crochet so when there is a peak you have 3 DC IN 1 DC, IN THE VALLEY THERE ARE 3 DC TOGETHER, AND THE LAST CHAIN YOU WILL HAVE 2 DC IN LAST STICH ALWAYS END GOING UP HOPE THIS HELPS!

  64. avatar Lora says:

Is that a whole piece that you have your diapers/wipe warmer on? I like it…did you purchase it somewhere?

  65. avatar Lisa Jackson says:

I love the afghan! I have been searching online like crazy to try and find a pattern like that for my nursery! Was yours online, and if so, do you still have the link? It is beautiful!

  66. avatar DeWood says:

I bought the fabric from carousel designs website is babybedding.com. And the pink trim I bought at Joann’s. I had a friend make the bedding for me.

  67. avatar DeWood says:

    24″

  68. avatar DeWood says:

    Size is 18″

  69. avatar nicole says:

where did you find the bedding??? I’ve been looking for gray and pink and can’t find it anywhere. thanks

  70. avatar TheCMH says:

Hello, could you share what size letters you had created for the “ila?” Thanks!

  71. avatar NIN15 says:

The stripes are 12 inches so it’s definitely 24

  72. avatar Afosnaugh0117 says:

For the big letter M, did you use the 24 inch or 12 inch?

  73. avatar dewood says:

    Prisoria,

Here is another idea. Get some fabric like fake crocodile or something with texture at Joann’s. (fabric color could be a light blue or green or even white)
Get Enough fabric where you can wrap it around your letter and get furniture tacks like studs and put those around the edges of the letter. You can maybe spray paint the studs a blue to add a pop of color.

  74. avatar dewood says:

    Prisoria,

Thank you ! I like the button idea and I was trying to think really hard on what you could use. The only idea that I thought of was using Lego blocks and spray painting them with a primer then spray them with a dark blue and then spray other ones with a light blue. Or you can use blue and a green. Then you can hot glue them on the letter with a dark blue ribbon on the edges.I think that would add more of a 3d aspect to your letter than the buttons. I will still think of more ideas for you!

  75. avatar Prisoria says:

I absolutely love your room. I was told at 16 weeks that my husband and I were having a girl and then at 20 weeks that it is a boy! Therefore I am in need of some help since I have to start from scratch. :( This room has been a lot of inspiration for me using navy blue instead of pink. But I wanted to get some ideas what I could use for the mache’ “M”. The flowers are great for a girl but I’m a little lost as to what I could use for a boys room. I found a button letter tutorial here, http://modernmommyhood.com/2011/12/button-letter-nursery-artwork-tutorial.html, but I wanted to pick your brain for more ideas if you don’t mind. Thanks so much

  76. avatar beth says:

Ok thanks! Its beth_desimone@hotmail.com just let me know what you think cost will be!
    dewood,

  77. avatar dewood says:

    Krista,

i used the same ribbon on the letter “M” which is that shocking pink

  78. avatar dewood says:

    beth,

yea let me look into it and see if i can still get the same flowers. let me get your email address. I’ll let you know as soon as i can get to the store.

  79. avatar Krista says:

    dewood,

Thanks so much…this is a great help!! One other question though, what color did you use for the ribbon on the bumper pad? Thanks again.

  80. avatar beth says:

    dewood,

I know i asked before but is there any way I could have you make me a paper mache letter “R” for my nursery in the same color you made yours? I am not good at DIY stuff and I LOVE your M! I could pay you via paypal or mail you a check?

  81. avatar dewood says:

    Krista,
    Thanks krista!

The shade of pink ribbon used for “M” shocking pink # 1497437

Letter of the mâché M is 22″ I think.

The size of “ila” is 18″ and phetsadavone is 8″

    Hope that helps!

  82. avatar Krista says:

Also what is the size of the letters…I just ordered the mâché in 8″ tall and the rest of her name is 18″ h x 48 L is this the right measurement or should have it been the other way around? Thanks again:)

  83. avatar Krista says:

Hi …love love this room….I was wondering what the shade of pink was that is used for the trim..I can’t seem to find it on the Joann website..thanks so much:)

  84. avatar dewood says:

    Helena M.,

Helena got it at big lots

    Sarah its mee-lah

  85. avatar Sarah says:

    Mila,

I am curious..Do you pronounce your name MEE-lah, or MI-lah? :) LOVE the name!!

  86. avatar Helena M. says:

I am in love with this mirror. I can not find it anywhere. Any idea?

  87. avatar Gina says:

I’ve looked at too many nursery to even count and I’ve finally found the inspiration for my nursery! I fell in love with the way the name just pops on the wall. I plan on also painting our new additions wall gray and white, but instead of pink I may go with shades of orange. GREAT JOB!

  88. avatar dewood says:

    Meaghan,

I ordered to much fabric for the skirt and bumper, i ordered 5yards of bumper and 6 yards of skirt. The person who made my bedding said I prly only needed half of what I ordered. Hope that helps

  89. avatar dewood says:

    Stephannie,

I got the baskets at ikea

  90. avatar Meaghan says:

Hey there! I love love love this nursery!! Great job! How much fabric did u order for the bed skirt and how much for the bumper pads??

  91. avatar Danielle Breshears says:

Can I ask how many yard of fabric you bought for the bumper and then for the crib skirt?

  92. avatar Stephannie says:

I am wondering where you got the pink baskets to fit the expidit?? I am looking for something like this! Thanks!

  93. avatar Sara says:

I absolutely LOVE this nursery!!! I hope to do something similar. I’m due in early September so time is a little issue. So far I have a dresser to refinish and paint, a changing table to paint and still looking for a crib. This is girl #3 for me so the challenge is finding the right colors cuz my hubby is freaking out with all the pink in the house, lol! I’m gonna attempt to make bedding so we’ll see!!! Thanks for the great idea!!

  94. avatar dewood says:

    Mj,

Thanks! The size of “ila” is 18″ and the other is 8″. Yes I bought the lampshade in hot pink at ikea.

  95. avatar Mj says:

What size name decal did you do? And did you also buy the lampshade in hot pink? Not only did i fall in love with your room, my husband did also.

  96. avatar dewood says:

    Nicole,

Glider is very comfortable i like how it also swivels. It also comes with a nice ottoman

  97. avatar dewood says:

    Heather,

I first painted the lighter paint shade on the whole wall. I measured how big I wanted my stripes about a foot each. I started down by the base and measured up a foot a made a line with a long level across and used painters tape to tape off sections. Hope that helps

  98. avatar Laura says:

I found a way to view the pictures without updating or using a different browser. — I clicked on the Pin It button and all the photos you could possibly pin will come up. You can view thumbnails of all the images, and yes they are big enough to see. Give it a try!

  99. avatar Florence Amber says:

I love it that you dedicate one part of one wall to pictures. That is so heartwarming. And I’m glad that you didn’t use different sized frames, which are really getting overused!

  100. avatar Abbi says:

Love this nursery! We’re doing these colors in our baby girls nursery too! I can’t wait to see how it turns out! Hopefully as cute as yours!

  101. avatar Nicole says:

Love the nursery! Is the glider comfortable? I was thinking of ordering this for our little girls room but am hesitant since I am not able to try it out in store.

  102. avatar Mila says:

This is just about the cutest nursery ever. It’s made my heart happy seeing my name on the wall. I will definitely keep this in mind for my future nursery.

  103. avatar Heather says:

I was curious how you painted the stripes on the wall. Any tips or tricks? Thinking of doing this to my daughters wall. Thanks!

  104. avatar beth says:

If you would consider making me a letter like you did with your M in the same color but with “R” I would buy one from you!!

  105. avatar dewood says:

    Brooke Hodge,

The trim is from Joann fabrics

  106. avatar Brooke Hodge says:

Yes I was wondering what shade of pink was used on the trim of the custom baby bedding. I was trying to make similar bedding on babybedding.com but was having trouble finding that particular shade.

  107. avatar dewood says:

    Megan Lawless,

Thank you ..I had my co-worker make my bedding for me

  108. I am OBSESSED with this nursery!! It is SO gorgeous!! Did you make the bedding or have someone make it for you? I am looking for someone to make custom bedding for our daughter but nervous to use someone I have never met!

  109. avatar Renee says:

For those who aren’t able to view more than 5 pictures, that same thing happens to me on my work computer. I know it’s because my work computer uses an outdated browser because when I use my home computer (or even my cell phone) I’m able to see all of the pictures. Like Pam suggested, I’d try using a different browser or updating the one you’re using now. Hope that helps!

And I love the curtains and how the wall decals frame the photo set!

  110. avatar Pam says:

Hi All,Sorry to hear you are having difficulty viewing all the photos. If you can’t click on the pink arrow to scroll through the pictures I would try using a different browser (like Chrome or Firefox) to view this room. I will look into this problem on our end too! Please let me know if you still are having problems. Thanks – P

  111. avatar danielle says:

Love!! Doing almost the same thing for my baby girl on the way. Except we’re adding some pink chevron too! I hope mine turns out as beautiful as yours!

  112. avatar Megan Borkowski says:

    Me too!!

  113. avatar brookelynntash says:

    I have the same problem.

  114. avatar Laura says:

how can i view all the photos? it never seems to work for me. i can only see the first 5 listed.
