Melody’s Whimsical-Modern Nursery

Description

A calm and relaxing nursery. I little bit modern and little bit whimsical. It's the perfect shade of blue for my baby girl!

Design Inspiration

We didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, so I wanted a color that could work for both. I was drawn towards blue and knew it would have to be that way.  I drove myself (and many others) crazy looking for the diaper pin.  I saw it way before I was pregnant and knew I had to have it in the room!   Once I had the perfect bedding FINALLY found the diaper pin, the rest just fell into place.

Decorating Style

I use a lot of tans and browns, with accent colors for a pop.  I gravitate towards anything that is both modern and has natural elements.  I get called out for allways gravtating to browns and tan, and nobody was suprised the nursery ended up in those colors!

Project Details

Well, the bedding I love.  I sew and have made bedding for both of my neices, but for some reason I wanted to just buy it.  I'm sure it stemmed from shear exhaustion.  It was fun searching for it online, something my mom and I did together.

Once we had the bedding, we worked on the walls and wainscoting.  With a lot of help from my Brother, Sister-in-law, and our best friends, there was a lot of love and anticipation put into those walls.

It's hard to say what my favorite part of the nursery is, but the wall decal over the crib, seriously could not be more perfect.  My cousin Melanie gave that to me, and it's from Uppercase Living, and she sells their awesome wall decals!

The chair and ottoman were a shower gift from my wonderful friends and family, and is so comfy!  The owl pillow, I made one afternoon during my 'nesting' period.

The light, curtains, and shelf are all from Ikea. On the shelf is Sophie The Giraffe, a must have for teething babies, adorable shoes from my cousin and an owl that I appliqued one friday night after she went to bed.

On the dresser is Melody's ipod dock (gotta have tunes!), and the wicked cute piggy bank that my cousin Amy with True Love Found, made.  She matched it perfectly with the nursery.

Favorite Items

I dont think I have a favorite item in the room.  I just love the fact that everyting means something to me, and there were a lot of people involved to make this room special to me, and to Melody.

Advice

Make it personal, and you will love walking into that room everyday!
