Mason’s Playful Polka Dots

Description

We have created a fun and playful nursery for our baby boy. We have made all the bedding and window tratments. We also completed all the painintg projects (walls and mural).

Design Inspiration

I wanted to create a room that was playful but not babyish. I wanted a room that felt like it belonged in our house, not a room that was taken from some other place and transplanted into our home.

Decorating Style

I love to mix prints and pabrics with bold colors and patterns with dark wood furniture that is more traditional. I am drawn to things that feel a little retro/vintage but I want it to feel up to date in the room.

Project Details

I first fell in love with the polka dot fabric. It is called "Great Spot" from the It's A Dog's Life collection by Prestigious Tetxiles. You can check it out here http://lsfabrics.com/search-products/1084727

I wanted to find a coordinating fabric to use in the box pleats on the bedskirt and window panels. I was very excited to find this great, green stripe. You can check it out here http://lsfabrics.com//search-products/1102147   My mom and I sewed all the bedding using a tutorial from here http://sew4home.com/projects/bed-linens/905-citron-a-gray-nursery-5  We also created the window treatments. My husband made the cornice boards and I sewed the panels.

Now that I had the fabric, it was time for us to pick out a wall color. We knew we wanted to paint a mural above the crib, so  we decided to use a neutral Khaki color on all the walls with classic white trim. I found a great owl on a tree branch that I loved here http://www.houzz.com/photos/383393/Lakeside-Home-contemporary-kids-minneapolis   Since my husband is awesome and has some creative talent, he was able to use this picture as inspiration and painted our own owl on a tree branch.

At this point we just needed some finishing touches. I loved the art prints I found on Esty by Lee ArtHaus, seen here http://www.etsy.com/shop/leearthaus?ref=seller_info   I framed them using frames that I found at Michaels. I bought the shelves at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The lamp was a lucky find at a local Homegoods (I LOVE it!). The "M" and the ceramic owls were bought at a local antique store. We bought the glider off Craigslist and we already owned the rug.

Love the polka dot fabric! I used the same one in my son's nursery as well. :)

Cozy, earthy, relaxing and warm. I really like your choice of colors and earth tones. Beautiful room overall.
