Mason’s Blue Oasis

Description

I just love today’s featured nursery. It’s high style on a smart budget! Tacoma, Washington mother Adrienne wanted to achieve the look and feel of a Serena & Lily designed nursery but was determined to do it for less. By tackling a few DIY projects with the help from her mother and her keen eye for stylish finds, the finished nursery is beautiful, fresh and a family affair. Two month-old Mason will be enjoying his fabulous blue walls, splashes of orange and touches of modern for many years to come. Here are all the details on Mason’s Blue Oasis.

Design Inspiration

We knew we were having a boy, but didn’t want to go with typical boy colors or any specific theme. I loved the modern elements of the Binth alphabet poster and the great orange color. Serena & Lily’s ‘Ben’ collection was also a great inspiration, but out of our price range

Decorating Style

I like to stick to neutral then add in some eclectic, antique or even modern elements. Before this room, I always stuck to neutrals and more soothing colors so this was an adventure for me!

Project Details

My mom recovered the rocker she used with my little brother and repainted it. The pillow and stool are covered in Heather Ross seahorse fabric from etsy shop Fabric Worm.

The vinyl decals are also from etsy. They were great because you can customize which color you wanted the birds and the bird cages. Rug is Dwell Studio from Target .

Amy Coe Westport crib from Babies R Us. My mom also sewed the curtains in front of the closet and the valance (I added the orange ribbon with iron-on transfer cause I can’t sew … yet).

Expedit bookcase from Ikea

Ikea Hemnes changing table without the changing topper. The topper didn’t fit in the room so we’re going to make this work for now. We added the basket on the side with those 3M hooks that don’t leave behind residue.

Binth alphabet poster.

DwellStudio from Target “Circles & Rings” crib set.

Paint: Benjamin Moore “Blue Spa”

Favorite Items

Besides baby Mason? =) I love the rug; it’s probably my favorite. And I adore the silhouette of my husband Matt, taken when he was two. But I also totally love the seahorse fabric on the foot stool and pillow. Tough choice …

Advice

This nursery wouldn’t be what it is without my mom! She did all the painting, recovered and painted the rocker, sewed the curtains, and contributed the rocking horse, wagon and so much else. So glad to have her!

Did you have to secure the Hemnes dresser to the wall as recommended on the Ikea website?

I love the blue! I'm so tired of seeing a light blue color for boys! Very modern and simple!

Love this wall color! I have been shopping all day for it based on seeing one similar used on another website. Thanks for sharing the color name… now I can relax and stay off the paint visualizer websites trying to figure it out.

I got the side table at Ikea for $20 – it’s the Hatten table(http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20116189) . The orange light fixture is actually a seahorse, although I can see where you’d get alligator from. It’s also Ikea, and was on clearance for $5.99 or something crazy. It’s not online but I recently saw it in the store. Thanks!
