Maggie’s Sweet Roses

Description

While only a few days old, little Maggie is already a Daddy’s girl. The sweet hand painted roses by Dad set the tone for this loving, shabby-chic, cottage style nursery dreamt up by Mom!

Design Inspiration

Simple, pretty, and sweet. Originally I wanted to cover the room with beautiful, English Garden-inspired wallpaper but couldn’t find quite what I had in mind. My lovely husband took on the task of hand-painting roses across the room.

Decorating Style

French Country with touches of Shabby Chic. I love anything that looks like it might have once been part of a cottage in an English countryside. I aspire for a home that is elegant, yet inviting and comfortable.

Project Details

Paint: The green walls were already painted that color when we purchased the house.  To get the green on green stripes we simply matched the original green paint color and then added white to get a lighter shade. We used blue painters tape to create stripes and painted the lightened green color between each strip of tape. It was incredibly easy and only took a few hours to complete.
Roses: We copied the roses from the bedding to a piece of paper and created a stencil

Crib: The pine, sleigh-style crib is a hand-me-down from my sister. All three of her kids used the bed and now my daughter will use it too.
Dresser: The dresser is an old English pine dresser we found at an antique store, Gatehouse Antiques, in Springfield, Missouri.
Shelf: The shelf is also an antique English pine piece, handed down from my mother

Favorite Items

The roses. Not only are they pretty, but they hold so much sentimental value. As our daughter grows she’ll learn about how her daddy painted each one to be unique. Coincidentally, when you look out the window of the room you also see many knock-out rose bushes with shades of red and pink.

Advice

A beautiful room doesn’t have to be expensive. Everything we purchased was quite affordable and doing a lot of the projects ourselves gave us time to reflect on becoming parents. Also one design tip: After we thought the room was complete we decided to add the molding where the wall and ceiling meet. Adding that extra trim made the room look finished and even more cozy.
