Liam’s Colorful Chevron Nursery

Description

I really wanted Liam to have a fun room. I am a big fan of bright colors, and wanted to incorporate especially a lot of yellow and red. I love, love, love crafting, so there's a lot in here that I just made/repurposed/designed myself. I didn't really have a specific 'budget', just that I wanted to be as thrifty as possible here. (Having a baby gets expensive, after all! I wanted to make our dollars stretch!) By learning a few new skills--aka picking up sewing for the first time in my life, scouring Craigslist endlessly, thrifting, & shopping at discount stores (Ross, TJ Maxx, etc.) and Amazon, I was able to put this entire room together for under $500 It definitely took a lot more time/work than just buying all brand-new, fancy things, but to me it was a labor of love + it's more unique and more my style.

Design Inspiration

I knew I wanted to use a lot of colors. My starting points, though, were the Jenny Lind crib and the chevron rug. From there, I chose pieces and bold prints that would go together cohesively.

Decorating Style

Whimsical, fun, bright & cheery

Favorite Items

I am in love with the gallery wall. I'm so pleased with how it turned out. I think it ties the whole room together. A close second would have to be the dresser. I worked very hard on it (it started out just a plain white) and I love the way it looks in his room!

Advice

Start getting ideas early! Before I even found out what I was having, I had a nice pinboard with ideas I liked either way. I really wanted the room to be fun and DIY, so I learned a lot of new 'skills'. Don't be afraid to try something new! It's amazing what you can learn using Pinterest/Blogs, etc. And be patient! It's easy to want everything to come together right away, but if you can't find what you want, keep looking!

You really do love chevron, huh? Pretty neat nursery, I should say. I thought too much chevron would look ridiculous, but you proved me wrong.

Wow, chevron overload! My favorites are the bike and the owl on the wall.
