Let Personality Shine

Description

Mom Carly injected a little personality into her baby girl’s room with some big design ideas! This is no cookie-cutter girl’s nursery. Note the big wall graphic modeled after the DwellStudio crib bedding. Or how about that molding which makes the tall ceilings a little more cozy? And finally, the angled crib: Have you ever considered angling your crib? Just some fun design for thought and a beautiful, soft, original nursery to inspire…

Design Inspiration

When I thought about what my future daughter might be like, I envisioned a playful, laid back, unique girl and I wanted the room to reflect that personality. I also wanted it to have personal touches and not seem “generic” or too “matchy-matchy.” It started with the Dwell Charlotte bedding and just grew over time as I added new pieces to the design.

Decorating Style

Casual and comfortable. I usually lean towards more neutral colors, and had originally planned on a chocolate brown and ivory nursery, but I decided to branch out and have fun with this project! I like a room to reflect personality and not feel like a museum.

Favorite Items

I really love all the pieces I found on etsy – the artwork that spells her name (so whimsical and ageless!), the mobile, the “You Are My Sunshine” print (our favorite song to sing to her), the ABC blocks with Amy Butler fabric on them that spell her name… all the personal touches.

Advice

Girls’ rooms don’t have to be pink to be girly and everything doesn’t have to match! Resist the temptation to buy everything from one “theme” or color. Add pieces as you go and make the room reflect who YOU are or who your child is. Have fun with it!

The crib was a hand me down from my niece. I sanded it and painted it off-white (it was originally natural oak). It is the Generation Next crib from Baby’s Dream: http://www.babysdream.com/Products/GenerationNext/Default.htm
