Josiah’s Nursery

Description

This is my son's nursery. We tried to decorate the room with a combination of whimsical and vintage, and stay on a budget!

Design Inspiration

I wanted to create a vintage inspired nursery with a combination of whimsical and fairytale theme.  There are also pieces of this room that I can't explain, because it mainly has to do with our family's sense of humor for weird and unique art.

Decorating Style

vintage, antique inspired, retro, and humorous.

Project Details

We painted the walls of the room tan, and all of the wooden furniture is black.  The crib is Jenny Lind (Ohbabystyle.com), and the dresser is an antique that we repainted.  The glider (USABaby.com) is tan to match the walls.  Accent colors are light blue, green and red.  The majority of artwork was created by my husband and I, and also from a friend. The bedding (fabric from craftyplanet.com), curtains, and chair pillow were made by Josiah's grandma.

Favorite Items

The handmade bedding that Josiah's grandma made for him!

Advice

The majority of our furniture was either free (the dresser and bookcase), on clearance (the nightstand and crib), or given as a gift (upholstered rocking chair). Try it keep it cheap, make your own art work, and get creative with nick-nacks from places like Michael's or Joann Fabrics that you can spice up on your own.  It's a lot more fun being able to look at what you created, and know how much you saved by doing it yourself!

Oh my, you still have those old Hardy Boys hardbound books!!! From these books alone, I can already tell that there's a lot of sentimental value in this room.

I so adore all the cute, artsy and interesting little what-nots you have displayed. It adds a whimsical twist to the room, without going over the top.

That changing table with its oak/chocolate brown finish clashed nicely with the colorful prints and paintings you have there.

I envy your talent!!! :)
