A Vintage Nursery

Description

We moved into our new home when I was 7 months pregnant with my 2nd child.  I knew I wanted to just start from scratch with his nursery since we were starting with a new home.  My mother-in-law and I did the entire nursery top to bottom together and I loved every minute of it!

Design Inspiration

I wanted to have an airplane theme going on in the nursery but I didn't want your typical primary colors.  Originally I was going to use yellow & gray as the color scheme but then found these fabrics and fell in love with them.  So we stuck with the gray for the wall color and then incorporated the green & navy blue in.

Decorating Style

I love color!  And I love vintage.  There are several old pieces in the nursery that are either from my or my husband's family.  I also needed to do the nursery on a budget so we ended up doing alot of the work ourselves and we made over alot of pieces too.  My daughter (who's 5) re-painted the navy blue (once red) end table by the glider.  We all pitched in on this nursery and that's one of the reasons I love it so much!

Project Details

Rug - Pottery Barn Outlet - www.potterybarn.com

Crib - Pottery Barn (2001 model) repainted - www.potterybarn.com

Dresser/Changing Table - West Elm Outlet (fronts of drawers I painted gray) - www.westelm.com

Glider - Walmart - www.walmart.com

All draperies, crib bedding, bobby cover, changing pad cover, & little stool seat cover was made by my Mother-In-Law.

White cubby shelves were made by my husband & painted by myself.

The paper airplane mobile was found on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CactusAndOlive?ref=seller_info).

The vintage airplane print was found on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/LemongrassArt?ref=seller_info).  The mat purchased at Michael's, and the frame was a garage sale find we re-painted.

The vintage toys on the white shelves are family pieces.

The gray blanket hanging on crib was purchased at the West Elm Outlet and then I had it monogrammed by a friend.

The silver airplane night light is from Pottery Barn - www.potterybarn.com

The "Captain's Quarters" wooden sign was ordered from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/forrestinavintage?ref=seller_info).  My husband is a Captain in the Army and I really wanted to incorporate that somehow since John Henry was our first born son.

The letters "JHM" were hand painted by myself.

"Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" wooden sign was purchased at an antique mall.

Favorite Items

My favorite item in the room is the crib bedding.  I love how the giraffes seem to be marching around the bumper pad.  I love the colors and the patterns of all the fabrics because I feel like they are very much little boy but also very much my style.

Advice

Find your fabric first!  I had all these pieces that I found at garage sales and antique malls but once I found my fabric and color scheme I wasn't able to use all my rare finds because they didn't really work anymore.  Once I had the fabrics chosen everything else was easy to find and even easier to coordianate!

Clean, modern, elegant. Wish there were more pops of colors, though.
