Greyson’s Crib

Description

We chose sock monkeys as a theme for our baby boy's room. But when shopping, found so many vintage toys that we included. I am a graphic designer and my mom is very creative so almost everything is handmade in this room, including most of the sock monkeys. Greyson's grandma made the curtains, crib skirt and quilt among many other things in this room. Since I'm a graphic designer and very into "simple" things, I believed when working on his room that not only did everything have to have a purpose but it had to be decorative. I think we accomplished an eye-catching blend of elegance and usefulness. Enjoy!

Design Inspiration

My great-grandmother was an inspiration to each and every person in my family in her own right. She made each baby of the family a sock monkey. She was an amazing lady who depended on only herself up until she was 90. She could do anything she wanted including cleaning out the gutters, on a ladder, at that age. When she passed away, my mom realized there would be no more sock monkeys. But she learned how to make them to keep the tradition alive and when she suggested a sock monkey theme nursery, we ran with it as an ode to one of our favorite people.

Decorating Style

I believe both simple and elegant describes my decorating style. I love painting rooms, but none of the rooms in my house are completely painted. I always do an accent wall or stripes because I think it is more interesting.

Project Details

We found the majority of the items for Greyson's room at thrift stores and yard sales. Both my mom and I tried new things to put into this room. I had never learned to crochet but learned when I found a sock monkey tutorial on youtube. He now sits on the polka dot stool by the crib. I also made many pictures for the walls.

Favorite Items

My favorite items are the "book nook" and the coat rack that holds his many hats.
