Gigi’s Big Girl Room Makeover

Description

I promised my daughter that she could have her own room when she started 3rd grade. The school year was quickly approaching and I needed to transform the room from her sister's nursery into a proper big girl room in under 3 weeks. Our friends at Serena & Lily jumped in to help us pull off a beautiful room transformation that Gigi can enjoy for many years!

Design Inspiration

Gigi wanted her room to be fun and cheerful with lots of purple. My goal was to create a big girl room that was sophisticated and classic but also had clean lines and a modern twist. Since Gigi loves art and has quite a large collection of original artwork from her classes at local art studio ARTifact, we decided to use a few of her pieces as inspiration for the room design. Her self portrait, featuring her purple hair definitely provided color inspiration!

Decorating Style

Since our house is an old, classic Victorian we wanted to show off the beautiful details. The soft gray paint on the walls was a nice contrast to the unexpected pop of fun with the striped wallpaper on the ceiling. The dresser and desk are both more modern in design while the bed is a little more traditional. I like mixing styles to create a unique yet classic style.

Favorite Items

I love Gigi's big bed (perfect for a sleepover guest) with loads of pillows. Gigi is so excited about her very own desk and  of course she loves reading and relaxing in the hanging swing!

Advice

Let your child be involved with the room design process by creating a pin board together. Bring in one of their favorite colors and find creative ways to highlight personal items they love. Hello! Where is the purple coverlet/quilt from? I don't see it listed in the project details. Love the room!

Hi Jade, It's the Cabin Quilt from Serena & Lily. That particular size/color is out of stock, but there are some other options available here.
