Description
Jules' bedroom is small but, like most tweens, needed a ton of practical storage. She wanted to be able to display photos, posters and treasures, have a desk for schoolwork and banish any sign of pink. I created a room that reflected her personality and functioned to suit her needs. It is a room that will grow with her.
Design Inspiration
My inspiration for the space was the colour of the bedding that Jules really loved. I used that to select everything from the wall and ceiling colours to the patterns throughout the room. The overall look is girly yet sophisticated.
Project Details
The bedding and wall diplay system are from PB Teen. The desk, pendant light and bookcase are from IKEA. The gorgeous dhurrie rug is from West Elm. The headboard, bedside table, mirror and bench are all vintage or kijiji finds that were then spray painted professionally by Paint it Like New. The roman blinds and seat cushion are from Tonic Living.
Find a similar headboard here.
Advice
If want to achieve a similar look, start with one item {bedding/fabric for window treatments} and use that to set the tone for the rest of the space. In a small room, such as this, choose three main colours and use them throughout the room. Use a combination of modern and classic pieces to make the room feel as though pieces were collected over time.

Do you know the gray paint color of the wall by any chance?
I wish I could post a picture of my attempt to duplicate this room… It turned out FANTASTIC.
My favorite part is the bench cushion in front of the window. I chose a Sunbrella fabric in a white and grey pattern to compliment the rug. I had a custom cushion made for me by http://www.patiolane.com and it turned out great. The only thing I dont love is the pink utility cart that I got but other than that, it came out great.
Where is the storage bench from???

Hi I’m doing this in my daughters room and I was wondering if you remember what the rug was called looking for that exact one and the bench. Thanks
I was hoping you could share the paint colors along with where you got the chandelier.
Here is her full description of her design. She shares all companies for each product used, except for letters and the actual coral color used for the letters, mirror and side table.

Ceiling, cubbies and inside of shelf unit: Benjamin Moore (BM) “Light Touch”
Wall color: BM “Whitestone”
Where did you get that sitting area with the letters over it? its sooo cute and i NEED :D
That is so gorgeous.
Hi Amy,
Per your message to me, I actually didn’t replace the blinds in my daughter’s room. She had brand new white wooden blinds and I couldn’t bear the thought of another expense, so I skipped it and left her white blinds. As far as the gray? I think it is less gray and more lightest lavender possible. The lavender may have a tiny gray tint, but it definitely is more lavender. But, be careful … lavender can become purple really fast! When you look at the paint swatch of the lavender when you go to pick out the paint it is likely the one you think is too light. The same goes for the light blue ceiling, if you choose to do the ceiling. Both the wall and the ceilings were super light … almost an ice blue and ice lavender. The coral is a true coral as well as the teal. Both the coral and the teal are pretty true to the picture. Those two colors are pretty easy to find. Pottery Barn seems to have bedding with that teal color in a variety of different options. Also, Overstock.com has bedding with that teal too. Hope that helps! p.s. I just noticed under the Designer’s “Project Details” above she references where some of the items came from: the roman shade came from Tonic Living! Good luck. ~ Sophia
Sophia were did you find the window shade? Are the colors light gray, teal and corral accents?
So glad you found inspiration here! Good luck with your redecorating.
I am 10 and I would love that room,I might think of borrowing some of those room ideas for redecorating this weekend.?
Hi!
To everyone wanting the paint color, including myself, I don’t believe the author is going to respond to our paint color requests. This article on the room is very old.
I ended up duplicating this room myself and found everything on my own. Some of the items I got the closest to the picture as I could and some of the items are identical. My daughter was beyond thrilled and I have to say, I think some of my items were better quality than the ones in the picture. The paint color is so beautiful and serene.
As far as the paint color, I went to Home Depot to the paint swatches. Sadly, I threw away the lids which had the exact shade so please forgive me. But, here’s what I did. I selected Glidden for the ceiling and the walls. The paint swatches were under the blues and lavenders. I selected the lightest shades for both — so light they are almost a few shades from white. Be careful and error on the lighter side. Get a sample size if you’re nervous and try it out. Also, remember the lighting of the room. My daughter’s room has two huge windows that face West. In different light, the walls take on a darker hue. But, the paint is so light.
Here’s what I purchased for the other items in the room and where I found them, if you’re interested:
Desk: white parson style from World Market, I topped it with glass for protection.
Desk Chair: Pottery Barn, swivel desk chair, covered in fur.
Hanging Light: Ikea
Bedding: All from Pottery Barn — I duplicated the author’s picture, Pottery Barn has a lot to choose from which are similar and the quality is better than most.
Rug: West Elm. The rug at West Elm was a fortune — $400+. I found a near duplicate at Overstock.com
Bench: The bench we decided not to use because with my daughter’s other furniture, it was just too much for the space. I saw the bench a million places online though. One place for the bench I remember was Overstock.com.
Anyway, hope this helps someone out there. I didn’t have anything to go on for the paint color and I did it on my own. You can too! Good luck. I wish I could post a pic … if I knew how, I would. =)
