Finley’s First Nursery

Description

This nursery was a very special one to design and decorate as this was my little girl's first nursery. I was looking for a sophisticated style that would grow with her over time. Unfortunately, we moved one year later but the good news is that I got to design a new nursery!

Design Inspiration

My approach to Finley's nursery was a happy and elegant nursery that could grow with her over time. This room used to be a blue boy's room so I quickly added the chair rail and the pink toile wallpaper with green paint below. The buffalo check draperies balance out the wallpaper and the chandelier adds the elegant and girly style element.

Decorating Style

This nursery definitely has a traditional feel but is a current traditional.

Project Details

By adding the chair rail to this room it added depth and dimension with that visual element. It also allowed for the wallpaper to contrast the white trim and the green wall below. I also used a blackout lining on the roman shade to ensure total darkness and encourage sleep, an element that every nursery should have!

Favorite Items

The pink toile wallpaper and the green buffalo check draperies are my favorite elements in this nursery with the chandelier running a close third.

Advice

I would advise creating a room that will grow with your child over time. And one that you can build upon. Had we stayed in this home, Finley would have used the bookshelf for her toys, books, display, etc. She could have also used a portion of the green wall space below the chair rail as a chalkboard area. Always keep function AND style in mind when designing any room in your home.
