Description
Girl's 1st Birthday Party. A twist on a ladybug, Finley's Lovebug theme featured custom made graphics designed by her mom and a vibrant hot pink, lime green and black color scheme.
Design Inspiration
The inspiration was her favorite ladybug blanket. The blanket is pink and brown. We decided to change the ladybug and do a "lovebug" theme featuring a few different types of bugs: ladybugs, butterflies and dragonflies.
Decorating Style
By using fun and bright colors coupled with a strong accent color like black, I was able to showcase the custom designed bugs in a bold way. The modern type also adds an element of crispness that allows the graphics to be the focus of the theme.
Project Details
I started by creating the bug illustrations. From there, I created the invitation, maps to the park, birthday banner, cupcake toppers, centerpieces, drink signs, etc. I ordered paper punches from Amazon.com and printed out all of the graphics at home on my HP Photosmart printer. I saved a ton of money by starting early and doing all of it myself.
Favorite Items
The pail with the grass and butterfly lollipop centerpieces were my favorite. I was also able to incorporate the custom graphics to the picnic table centerpieces to really add a personal touch in the pavilion set up at the park.
Advice
Use bright, bold colors. The contrast will help to create a fun look. Choose 1 or 2 main colors and an accent color. Use these colors for everything. Decor, plates, napkins, table cloths, etc. The unity of the colors will help pull your theme together and create a cohesive look.
It’s really nice to see parties centered on DIY decorations and other DIY details. The bug theme looks marvelous. And it does look like you saved tons of money with this fun and colorful party. Amazing job!
