Fantastic Mr. Fox Inspired Nursery

Description

We wanted rustic warmth with "gentlemanly" colors (Grey, brown, orange and aqua) and fabrics (tweed/wool/corduroy/houndstooth). It has quickly become our favorite room in the house because it is so cozy.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration was the film "Fantastic Mr. Fox"

Decorating Style

Rustic, clean-lined, warmth

Project Details

We started with the wood wall - had Home Depot cut birch plywood into planks and we nailed the planks into vertical 1x2s (not directly into the wall) and stained it once it was up with Minwax Provincial. The crib is Babyletto Hudson in White/Espresso, The rug is from Home Decorator's Collection. The grey chair is The Cardiff Tufted from Pottery Barn (but we got it super cheap on craigslist) The shelving is Expedit (that they just announced they are discontinuing), The quilt was made by MadCityDesigns and the prints were done by Corella Design. The curtains are Sanela by IKEA and the small faux sheepskin rug is also from IKEA. We got the paper mache letters from Joann Fabrics and the paper we used to decoupage from Paper Source.

Favorite Items

The wood wall! Such hard work but so worth the reward - it completely set the tone for the whole room. It was the first thing that we did and made the rest of the planning lots of fun.

Advice

See links above! The return of more "dapper" made designing this a bit easier these days (I think thanks to Mad Men) so you can find gems in unexpected places like flea markets and Home Goods stores.

Where did you get the animal prints from that are hung behind the crib? Love those!
