After learning we were expecting a baby girl, I experienced an indescribable feeling, as if I were floating on air. I immediately began to work on designing her nursery and wanted a light and airy feeling. Ethereal means “light, airy, almost too perfect for this world”, and I used these words and the definition to guide my design choices. I wanted the central point of the room to display a round fur rug to imitate a fluffy cloud that mirrored the circular shape of the lighting fixture directly above it. I wanted stark white walls to accentuate natural light pouring in from the windows to contrast the glossy light pink ceiling that would make anyone’s mouth water by looking at it because it looks as sweet as candy. Whimsical light and airy curtains that fool the eye with their thick, blackout panels underneath are gorgeous and highly effective for a nursery. With all this “fluffiness” I wanted to incorporate an element of strength, so my husband crafted a solid wood wall hanging above the changing table. A nice balance with all the other soft features. Finally, the highLIGHT of the room is our daughter’s name embedded in a floral arrangement above her crib. This DIY protect was surprisingly simple, fun, and inexpensive.

I love your work and it has inspired me for our soon to arrive little lady. I was wondering if you could provide more detail as to how you created the flower and marquee name plate that is featured in the Ethereal Nursery article. I would love to make this for my daughter, but could not tell what the base was, how you attached the flowers and letters, and can you confirm if once attached to the wall it is framed out? I appreciate your help in advance – just want to make sure it is sturdy at it will be over her crib! Have a wonderful day and look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
