Elegant Beatrix Potter Nursery for Baby Sophia

Description

Not knowing the gender of our baby, I wanted to keep the room gender netural so all of our future babies could use the room. I always loved the Beatrix Potter movies and remember growing up watching them. I'm not a fan of nurerys that "scream baby."

Design Inspiration

My inspiration for the room came from the Beatrix Potter moives. There  is something so  calming and peaceful about the images throughout the movie. That is a big part of what I wanted to bring to the nursery. My biggest inpsiration is from the beginning of the Beatrix Potter movie when, Beatrice Potter the author of the books is painting in the forest and it starts to rain. You can almost feel the rain drops on a cool spring morning. Seeing the children in their white dresses and suits running home, as she packs up her belongs with her dog Kep to take cover from the rain. My husband and I already had the dog part down, we have a Shetland Sheepdog, often known as the Sheltie. We just needed the scene and thats what I wanted for the room, a feeling of early spring after a rain fall.

Project Details

For the crib, dresser, nightstand, glider and drapes I choose Restoration Hardware Baby and Child. I'm extremely happy with the crib, dresser and nightstand. The small details in each of the pieces of furniture are very soft and elegant. The glider is amazing and so comforable, it makes falling  asleep way too easy. Also, its a slip cover, the fabric is durable and machine washable, so I do not have to worried so much about possible messes.

The drapery is amazing! I love them and they were my birthday gift.  The curtain rods, believe it or not are from walmart.

The breatrix potter prints are from ebay and I love them!! They were what I searched high and low for. The color of prints are so important when choosing artwork for a room.

I did not choose any colors that were really bright. The frames are again from Walmart, I chose them because I did not want to take away from the artwork.

The baskets, cherry tree, moss rabbit, alphabet shelve and yellow flowers are from Home Goods. Its hard to control myself in that store.

The Beatrix Potter bedding is from Pottery Barn Baby. I was debating on choosing a solid color bedding but I decided that I wanted to keep with the Breatrix Potter theme. The beautiful white shelving is also from Pottery Barn Baby.

The Beatrix potter blocks are from etsy, and are so soft and adorable pillows.

The Beatrix Potter book, piggy bank, booksends and alphabet letters are from ebay.

My beautiful chandelier is from Lowes online. I love, love, LOVE IT. Its a perfect size for the room.

My DIY was the baby moss letter, small plant, beatrix book door art and mobile. I made myself. They are the perfect unique touchs to the room.

Favorite Items

While each piece in the nursery has a special meaning to me and I absolutely adore every piece in the nursery. My most favorite item in the nursery would have to be her antique french mirror, it is breathtaking.

It is a piece that was unexpected and I did not plan. It was a surprise Christmas gift from my parents. It fits perfectly with the color and style of the whole room. The size of mirror is huge, but it’s a perfect balance in the room. It still stands out but does not take anything away from the other pieces in the room.

Advice

The best advice I could give would be to have fun and enjoy the whole process. Research, research, research, and search for items that are unique and stand out but at the same time are functional daily. Look, through magazines, pinterest, ebay, amazon and of course project nursery for ideas and details of each image. Choose items that are similar but not too match/matchie. Don't rush into things because you cannot find something you like right away, sometimes it’s worth the wait!
