Dreams for our Baby Boy

Description

A modern, fresh nursery for our baby boy

Design Inspiration

We live on the Spanish island of Ibiza and I took inspiration for my colour scheme from the elements on the island - the exquisite aqua tones of the meditterranean ocean and the vibrant greens of the pine forests.

I chose the elephant as the main theme for the room as this is an animal close to my heart that reminds me of my home country, South Africa. The elephant alwats evokes a sense of peace in me as well which is definately a feeling that I wanted to have for this room.

Decorating Style

Fun, fresh and modern with personal touches throughout.

Project Details

Living on a tiny island means that I am not exactly spoilt for choice, so I did most of my shopping, for ideas and for products,  online.

I fell in love with the Oeuf Sparrow crib before I even knew that I was pregnant, and found a supplier in Barcelona, modern kids store Nobodinoz.

I found the gorgeous Elephannt fabric at Designers Guild in the UK and also used other fabrics from their childrens range to mix and match with the Elephant design.

Rather than using mass produced, store bought linens, I asked a family friend to make a patchwork quilt, some cushion covers and a crib bumper for me. The quilt is reversible and machine washable, it has a gorgeous stylised world map on the reverse side - another Designers Guild Fabric called Around the World.

Instead of buying a changing table, I used a single bed that we already had, which happens to be the perfect height for changing and has very useful storage space below the bed as well as space for a pull out spare mattress.

I made the elephant crib mobile from left over scraps of fabric and two sticks found on the beach infront of our house. I wanted to keep all toys and accessories as organic as possible. I found the gorgeous crocheted Giraffe, Elephant and Zebra at Nobodinoz in Barcelona, they are by Danish toy company Sebra.

I bought the poster  'Dreams for your son' on Etsy.

My husband painted the room himself, which was a great way for him to get involved and feel like he was doing something important for his unborn son.

I found the replica Eames rocker locally.

Such a lovely nursery!  I love the colors -- we used a lot of turquoise and aqua in ours as well.  The pillows and mobile are darling.  Nice work!
