Dino Dude Nursery

Description

I created this nursery for our son, Ehren, who is due tomorrow!  When I found out we were expecting I began searching for bedding for both a boy and a girl- this print was my favorite and I was ecstatic to be able to purchase when we learned we were having a boy!!

Design Inspiration

When we found out we were going to have a little boy I immediately thought to incorporate a childhood favorite of my husband's:  Dinosaurs!  My husband can not wait to share his passion for dinosaurs with our little one  and I thought a bright fun room would help build this connection early on. When I found Michael Miller's dinosaur fabric entitled  Dino Dudes  I fell in LOVE!

Decorating Style

I call my decorating style for this room, " the FUN in Functional"!  The room is on the small side and babies require some large scale items, but I tried to decorate in a  young and energetic way that will grow with our son.  I used color to help brighten up the small space and various storage ideas  to offset the tiny closet.

Project Details

I had the crib bedding, window valence, changing pad cover, diaper stacker and a few other accessories custom made for me by http://www.etsy.com/shop/mellissasboutique .   I picked the wall color to coordinate with the fabric.  It is from Sherwin Williams and is called Nervy Hue.  The dinosaur wall decals and various decorations are also from Etsy.  The glider is from Target.  The crib is from Walmart.  The cube storage unit, dresser, table lamp, triangular mirror,  rug and shelf are all from Ikea.  The light fixture I custom ordered from http://www.lampsplus.com/ - it was such a great bargain for $100!  My mother made the dinosaur picture and the large "E" prints on the shelf using her Cricut and my sister made the letters on the door.  My grandmother also created a quilt that fit perfectly with our theme!

Favorite Items

I just love the fabrics in our nursery- they are very fun and whimsical.  I am proud of the time and love that went into this nursery- from all of the custom pieces, to the creations by family and the  hours that my husband and father spent building furniture and leveling shelves and stickers.  Our nursery already radiates so much love and with the addition of our little man it will only intensify!!

Advice

Find the item for your nursery that you are passionate about and build from there.  Invest in unique quality accessories and supplement with less expensive items.  Some of the best advice I received throughout this process came from my sister-in-law.  She has a 3 year old and when I told her we were looking at expensive furniture for our nursery she suggested that we try Walmart and Target.  She said that her son has found so many ways to defile her furniture that she would have gone crazy if she had spent a fortune.  Now she can afford to replace all of the items that he has damaged!

I think a dinosaur theme is great for a baby boy. I don't know of a little guy who doesn't love dinosaurs! And oh, that little tin tub is too cute!
