Chic 1st Birthday!

Description

This is my daughter's first birthday party dreamed up by mom (me) and brought to life via etsy and Michaels craft store. Enjoy! To see the details of the party go to http://alamodemaven.blogspot.com/2011/03/party-almost-perfection.html

Design Inspiration

I don't enjoy themes, but I LOVE COLOR!  I chose as base color of black and white so that those items could be used again and again.  I mixed lime green in for a bright fun look this year.  Since my daughter's birthday is in February, I added in a few penguins for a winter flair.  I wanted a sophisticated, chic look but with a flirty childlike feel.

Decorating Style

I would say my style is contemporary chic.  I love clean lines mixed with classic traditional pieces.  I like a pop of color with a neutral base (mostly because I am fickle and like to change my look a lot).

Project Details

I used etsy.com for all things custom for this party.  I also bought a lot of stock items from Michaels (the craft store), some of which was leftover Christmas decor for 70% off.  If you would like to see the details of my custom finds they can be found at http://alamodemaven.blogspot.com/2011/03/party-almost-perfection.html

Favorite Items

The cake toppers were my favorite items, and I love the poms that we hung from the ceiling- so whimsical and fun!

Advice

If you can dream it, someone on etsy can make it.  Search clearance bins at local craft stores for inspiration.  A lot of my ideas come from a clearance or sale item.

Love the mature feel and the use of rich colors for this party.  I've never really thought about using black and other colors for a first birthday party, but you've made it work it here.  And then the burst of bright colors on the tags and everything else.  Brilliant!
