Cameron’s Nursery

Description

Nursery for our baby due 4/28/11.

Design Inspiration

To create a peaceful, gender neutral nursery for our baby.

Decorating Style

Modern and contemporary.

Project Details

Favorite shops for this room: Ikea, CB2, Dwell studio, Lowe's, Anthropologie.

Favorite Items

The Raggedy Ann and Andy are something that hung in my bedroom when I was little, and the rocker is my great grandmother's. Those and the little red chair, also a family heirloom, are my favorite peices. I also love the bedding which I sewed myself with fabric from Ikea.

Advice

Look for inspiration online and don't buy everything all at once. Pick up bits and pieces as you go.

May I ask where you got that white tree wall decal from?

  4. avatar Christie says:

Tiffany, I used Valspars Stone Mason Grey and its perfect!
    Got it at Lowes.

  5. avatar Tiffany says:

I love this nursery! I too am wondering about the paint. I’m having a girl and am doing a purple and gray room. What brand/color is the gray paint.

    Thanks!

  6. avatar Monica says:

I love this room!! I am also wanting to know what brand and color gray you used.

  7. avatar Janel says:

What brand and color of grey did you use?

  8. avatar imelda says:

Love this! I was hoping you could tell me where you bought the bench (window seat)?

  9. avatar Andrea says:

Love this nursery! Where is the wall decal from?

  10. avatar Holli Griffin says:

I love this bedding. Tried to search for it on the Internet with no luck. Where did the bedding come from?

  11. avatar Christie says:

Thanks Sarah! I found similar ones at Target online. I was surprised that they had such good quality cribs…online only though.. and for around $500-600.

I fell in lovee w the abacus but cb2 no longer sells it. I finally found someone on Etsy who says he can make the exact replica but for $202, its pretty pricey but I really want it, so I think I will splurge on it.

Charlene, there are many places that sell the hamper. Google “white elephant hamper” and lots of places come up for that same hamper!

  12. avatar Charlene says:

    Christie,

    Where is the hamper from?

  13. avatar Sarah says:

Hi Christie – I was also wondering about the crib, and found a similar one by Young America (Stanley). Many furniture stores carry this brand. http://www.youngamerica.com/stationary-sleigh-crib.html

Most stores have it on sale from $570-650. It is available in the natural wood. I searched for a long time, and this is the only one I found that’s similar and good quality.

  14. avatar Christie says:

    LOVE this nursery!!

I’m having a boy and this nursery is my inspiration :) It’s so gently and sweet.
I bought the rug and bumper material from IKEA yesterday.. Found wall decal and elephant hamper. The crib is the tricky part, you’ve got the perfect shade of light wood! It’s a Ragazzi but they no longer make that specific crib. So I may just do black and I will cross my fingers it works out!

One question, what do you call that score board thingy above your changing table?? I cant think of the name and where did you get it?? I really love that piece!

  15. avatar Emily says:

    uofmrocky,

    The rug is from Ikea.

  16. avatar Grace says:

Hello! for some reason, only 5 pictures are showing of your nursery and would love to see the monkeys, hangers, abacus etc that everyone loves so much! am I missing something? Thanks and lovely room!

  17. avatar Sarah says:

I would love to know where you got your crib. I can’t seem to find anything like it. Love your nursery!

  18. avatar NewMomP says:

hi sky, great job on the nursery, i too fell in love with it and want to replicate some of it. love to hamper and the gray color. thanks so much for posting your nursery online!

  19. avatar Rina says:

Hi gorgeous nursery! Where did you get the crib, dresser (with changing pad on it) and the other dresser/bench by the windows? Thanks!

  20. avatar Celly says:

I love your room so much and I’m trying to duplicate it as well. You did a great job! I’m due on New Years day and will be setting up my nursery NLT next month hopefully. I found almost everything already.

  21. avatar Meg says:

Love your nursery, so exciting planning it all out. I especially love the hamper, I tried ordering one but I am in canada and they will not ship >:(
Did you find your rug had a smell? I have my eye on one at Ikea but I was told not to put a rug in my nursery that was made with polypropylene? I am trying to convience myself I am just over thinking it…

    Thanks, M

  22. avatar kirstysf says:

Catherine, the rug is from ikea and a steal at 19.99, they still have it in stock, i was there yesterday :-) See link below. I bought it for my nursery too :)

Where did you get the area rug? I love it and would like to plan a nursery around it! Thanks!

  26. avatar wenbow says:

You truly succeeded in creating a peaceful and serene gender neutral space.  I love the walls and the elephant hamper.  There are a lot of interesting spaces throughout the room.  Very well done!

    my nursery (in progress)

  27. avatar charmeng says:

Your nursery is my favorite nursery! I love looking at it! It’s definitely my inspiration for my nursery! Great job all over!

  28. avatar SkyCroswell says:

You are correct! I went with citrus yellow – can’t wait to see pics of what you do! :)

  29. avatar kellyanne1284 says:

Ok, so, I ordered and received my elephant hamper (got the smallest available and it was more than large enough for our small nursery). I also found the fabrics at Ikea, and hired a lady on Etsy to make the bumper and crib skirt for me. Room is painted gray. Now, I’m getting ready to order the wall decal from the gal on Etsy, but, what color are your birds? Do you remember? Options are either “Blazing Yellow” or “Citrus Yellow”. Yours look to be more like the citrus yellow, but I want to be sure!

  30. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Hi onerarerose – The floor lamps are from IKEA and the table lamp is from Home Goods.

    lindsaysmama  – Thank you!

anise – thank you so much! Please post photos, I would love to see them. What a fun coincidence, I hope things are going well for you! We can’t wait for baby to arrive!

pickle915 – I got the largest size they had available. A splurge, but totally worth it :)

  31. avatar pickle915 says:

Love your nursery!  Which of the three sizes available did you get for the elephant hamper?

  32. avatar ansie says:

Hello. I am from Montréal, Canada. I love your room so much that I am doing the exact same for my baby girl! I am just replacing the yellow for a pink (with the birds and accessories)

And what a funny coincidence, I just realized we have the exact same due date!! 4/28/11… and obviously the same taste! Hope you are fine.

  33. avatar lindsaysmama says:

    This is FAB!!

  34. avatar onerarerose says:

Where did you get your lamps?!

  35. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thank you so much for the compliments! I don’t mind at all – duplicate away! :) I found that sewing it myself I probably saved about $50 overall from what you see on etsy. I thought originally that I would save a lot, but in the end it’s very close to the same. At this point, because baby is due soon, I wouldn’t want to sew again to sell it jsut becuase I don’t have the time. but I considered it briefly! LOL This seller has a lot of gray and yellow to choose from, and is in the same price range I’d say I ended up spending overall: http://www.etsy.com/listing/55733361/design-your-own-custom-crib-bedding-set  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  36. avatar kellyanne1284 says:

I looked on Ikey – doesn’t look like they have thay gray fabric with white leaves anymore. I would imagine I could find a similar skirt, use a white or light gray sheet and hopefully track down a plain gray bumper. I hope you don’t mind, but I am totally going to try to duplicate this room as closely as possible and it looks like I could even do it on a smaller budget than I originally planned. I love it. Thanks so much for the inspiration. It is truly stunning.

PS – Would you consider making another set, and selling it? Also, did you find it was more economical to make this yourself, or would it have been comparible to have it made by one of the ladies on Esty?

  37. avatar SkyCroswell says:

LOL I didn’t think so either! But don’t be afraid! If you have access to a sewing machine you can do it :) It’s all straight cuts and straight lines. If you give it a whirl, be sure to post photos. There are also a lot of crafters on http://www.etsy.com that will make custom bedding for you in the fabric of your choice – another option I looked at before I decided to go it alone :) Again, good luck with it – happy deocrating!

  38. avatar kellyanne1284 says:

Thank you for the info. I would never be able to pull that off, though :(

  39. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thanks kellyanne! I made the bedding myself with fabric from IKEA. The sheets are from Dwell studio. It was very simple to do (I am not an experienced sewer at all), the kit I bought for the bumpers is from here: http://www.makeroomforbabykit.com it comes with instrucitons for the sheet, skirt, and bumpers. Very easy! I had the same problem, I disliked all of the patterns out there for sale, so I wanted to make my own with fabrics that better suited my style. Good luck!

  40. avatar kellyanne1284 says:

Absolutely stunning! Where did you get the bedding? I have been looking everywhere for this color scheme…and nothing has been quite this nice.

  41. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thank you! The mirrors are Martha Stewart Living. I got them at Lowes. and I made the changing pad cover form fabric from Ikea and the pattern here: http://www.prudentbaby.com/2009/12/diy-changing-pad-cover-tutorial.html I am a novice at sewing, and it was VERY easy. It took about a half an hour to make two of them. Good luck!

  42. avatar almalo says:

I love your room!!! Can you tell me where the round mirrors are from and where the diaper changing pad cover is from.  Thank  you!!!

  43. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Taryn, thank you! The hooks are from Anthropologie.

peachmama, Thank you as well! I made the bedding myself in fact. The bumper and skirt fabric is from Ikea. And the sheet was purchased from Dwell studio. I am a novice at sewing, so don’t hesitate to try it yourself. They were very easy! :)

  44. avatar peachmama says:

SkyCroswell, I adore your creation!!! Can I ask where you got the bedding (grey and yellow), and where you got the crib?

  45. avatar Taryn Wenzel Deach says:

Where did you get the letter wall hooks? adorable!

  46. avatar jakesmama says:

weeDecor has a similar tree decal too.  plus their is made from fabric (eco-friendly, no PVC’s)…http://weedecor.com/products-page/trees-nature/whimsical-tree-wall-decal/

  47. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thank you! The abacus is from CB2 (www.cb2.com). It is one of my favorite pieces. :)

  48. avatar Crissymel says:

I love the abacus! Where did you find it?

  49. avatar SkyCroswell says:

NickyLynn – the tree decal was purchsed on Etsy. I can’t remember the seller’s name but if you search for “the original tree decal” or “the original vinyl tree” on Etsy it will come up. It is the only one with “the original” in the name. It was very easy to install and comes in lots of different color combinations. Good luck!

  50. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thanks Letisha, I am not sure where the dresser/changing table was purchased as we got it second hand. But, the brand is Ragazzi. I don’t know if they are made anymore. I bought a conversion kit for the drop side crib to make it a non-drop-side style for safety purposes and when I purchased that online I read that the brand had been bought out by another crib company. I’m sure you could find some information through googling though. Wish I had more information for you. Good luck in your search!

CreativeCrumbs – thank you! The letter hooks are from Anthrolologie and the monkeys were a gift, I’m not sure where they are from. :)

  51. avatar CreativeCrumbs says:

I love those cute little monkeys on the shelf and the CAMERON hangers. This room looks very classy and very elegant.

  52. avatar Letisha says:

Love your design!!  Can I ask where you got your drawers/change table?

  53. avatar NickiLynn says:

Love it!  Can I ask where you got the tree decal?  I’ve been looking for just the right one and I really like the one you chose.  There are so many to pick from out there!

  54. avatar cmjgjhcain says:

thanks for the paint info…i will check out that brand to see if i can find it!

  55. avatar Recreate says:

It’s so nice that you still have heirloom pieces like the rocker to pass on to your little one. I sure wish I had something like that. It’s something that really needs to be treasured. And oh, you did a DIY bedding! Amazing!

  56. avatar SkyCroswell says:

I don’t remember the color, as it was paint we had left from another room we painted a year or so ago. But I do know it’s Behr brand from Lowe’s. Hope that helps! It’s one of the cooler-shades of gray that they offer it has a lot of blue in it. :)

  57. avatar cmjgjhcain says:

What color is the paint on the walls?  I am thinking of something similar.

  58. avatar SkyCroswell says:

Thank you everyone! The hamper is from http://www.homedecorators.com and the rug is from Ikea. Happy deocrating!

  59. avatar butterscotch says:

I love the brown-gray-white color combination you used here. Modern and gender-neutral indeed! And the abacus is such a unique and beautiful add-on.

  60. avatar kirstysf says:

where did you get the rug, its fab! :)

  61. avatar kirstysf says:

I LOVE the hamper too, you can get it here http://www.amazon.com/Rattan-Elephant-Hamper-Hx17-WHITE/dp/B000XRRANU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295850175&sr=8-1

I have it on my registry
