Butterfly Dreams

Description

Cute room with fun color palette for a little girls room.    I painted large overlapping butterflies with a modern feel and not too much detail to them.  Savannah loves butterflies and definitely wanted some on her bed wall.  Room designed by TK Interiors.

Design Inspiration

Savannah's love of butterflies.  Pulling colors from the bedding  was definitely my  inspiration.

Decorating Style

Whimsical, fun, lighthearted.

Project Details

I hand drew the large butterflies on brown paper and freehand painted the smaller one.    I was able to move them around until I was happy with the placement and then traced the larger ones on the wall.   Each butterfly was handpainted and then slightly shaded in certain areas.  A plain lampshade is given new life with cute peel and stick trim.

Favorite Items

The little side table lamp with the word "Hugs!" on it!  Cute little reading chair.

Advice

I freehand most of my work unless going for a uniform shape such as the butterflies above.  That's when  I make templates for tracing.  I  use brown paper which can be purchased in rolls at Home Depot or Lowe's.  Go as big as you want and then fold the paper in half.  Draw half of the shape from the center out at the fold and then cut out.  This allows you to make sure of placement before adding paint.

TK Interiors did a great job with the room. The butterflies although bold in color worked really well against the mint wall color and bedding. There was a softness to the room that was very feminine and inviting. We thought everything worked really well together.

Love the very feminine/girly colors. I also love the colors and the patterns you chose for the bedding, the curtain, and the chair.
