A Bright and Woodsy Nursery for Luka

Description

I knew I wanted to create a special space for my boy that was full of D.I.Y artwork and crafts made with lots of Love. This nursery was created on a tight budget and turned out to be one of my favourite rooms in the house. The woodsy theme featuring tourquoise, teals, burnt oranges and mustard yellow throughout the room. From the hand painted artwork to the hand made change table and refurnished dresser, all of these projects were designed to create a fun room for my baby boy to grow up in.

Design Inspiration

The mobile was my inspiration. I used a lot of the colours that are featured in the woodsy theme mobile.

Decorating Style

rustic with bright, fun colours. Lots of D.I.Y pieces.

Project Details

The mobile was created by me. I got the branch wreathe from Michaels and thread some string through some felt balls and created a baby mobile for the reading area.

I made the READ TO ME sign out of cardboard letters and then modge podged some of my favourite,  bright pages from a book I bought at a thrift shop and glued onto an old piece of barn wood.

My art teacher created the custom fox painting.

My mom created the I Love you to the moon and back again picture.

I repainted the dresser and changed the hardwood.

The change table was created by my husband with some pine wood.

I painted the birch tree painting.

I created the wood block letters with old scrapbooking paper and letters I found at michaels.

The orange calligraphy sign was painted by me with water colour paint.

The Be Brave painting was created by me.

The shelves were made by my husband with old barn wood we found.

Favorite Items

The sock fox my grandmother gave my son Luka.

Advice

Go to thrift shops! A lot of the classic books featured in the nursery were $1-$3 at the thrift shop. The dresser I bought was under $20! I just gave it a good coat of paint and it completely changed the look. Make as much as you can if you love arts and crafts. It is more special that way! Even if it doesnt turn out to be perfectly pin worthy, remember it was made with LOVE and that is all that matters.
