Nursery to Sleep & Play

Description

My 20 month old recently proved to be an escape artist by climbing out of his crib. Although, he still feels like a baby to me he now has a converted toddler bed.

When originally planning his nursery I was going for neutral with just hints of color and the Animal Print Shop prints since my son’s nickname is Bear. However, my husband had a request for color, which I added in blue and orange. The room is a good size and is multi-purpose for sleeping, reading, and playing. My son has an additional play area with a tent and play kitchen, but most of his toys are in his room.

On the wallpapered wall is toy and book storage, plus a place to put the Dyson humidifier and air purifier. My husband’s second request was for the Invictus poem to be featured in his room. Next to Invictus is an animal ABC poster. Storage units& lamps: IKEA, Bins: Land of Nod, Art: Etsy, Wallpaper: Chasing Paper.

Above the dresser is a painting that was in my brother’s room. My son loves turning his lamp on just by touching it. Dresser: IKEA, Lamp: Target, Keekaroo changing pad: Nordstrom:

Above my son’s bed is the Climbing Bears Print and on other walls in the room he has the Macaw and Lion Cubs. I framed his name announcement, which was placed on him after he was born and the picture was sent out to friends and family. Crib: Walmart, “A”: Home Goods, Sheets: Quick Zip, Monte Glider & ottoman: Land of Nod.

In his adjoining bathroom I used a light, but bright green paint that picked up on the color from the shower curtain. I made the art above the camode out of flash cards with the Bear card in the middle. The fish art is something I made when I was a child. The Elmo with a toothbrush on the mirror came from a pop up book that my son dismantled. Shower curtain: Target, Flash Cards: Amazon.

My advice: keep the nursery simple and think of how you will use the space for the long haul. Your baby will be a toddler sooner than you think and that stage is much longer than the baby stage.
